Job Description
We are seeking an experienced
SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to design, implement, manage, and maintain high-performance SQL Server databases. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in
database administration, performance tuning, backup/recovery, high availability, and
security management in enterprise-scale environments.
The role involves working closely with infrastructure, development, and application teams to ensure database reliability, scalability, and security across on-premises and cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022) instances.
- Manage database performance, query optimization, and index tuning for high throughput.
- Implement and maintain High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions (AlwaysOn, Log Shipping, Replication, Clustering).
- Perform database backups, restores, and recovery testing using industry best practices.
- Manage database security, including roles, permissions, and encryption.
- Monitor database health using tools such as SQL Profiler, DMV queries, and monitoring suites (e.g., SolarWinds, Redgate, SCOM).
- Automate routine DBA tasks using PowerShell, Python, or T-SQL scripts.
- Collaborate with developers to design efficient database schemas, stored procedures, and triggers.
- Perform database migration and upgrades across environments (on-prem and cloud).
- Troubleshoot database-related incidents, ensure RCA documentation, and provide performance insights.
- Work with DevOps/Cloud teams for deployment automation and Azure SQL / AWS RDS support.
Technical Skills
Core Expertise:
- Microsoft SQL Server Administration (2016/2019/2022)
- Database design, tuning, and optimization
- Backup, restore, and recovery (native tools, Redgate, or similar)
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery (AlwaysOn, Log Shipping, Clustering, Replication)
- T-SQL scripting and automation
Monitoring & Tools
- SQL Profiler, Extended Events, Performance Monitor
- Monitoring tools: Redgate, SolarWinds, SentryOne, or equivalent
Scripting & Automation
- PowerShell / Python scripting for DBA automation tasks
Preferred (Good To Have)
- Experience with Azure SQL Database or AWS RDS
- Familiarity with NoSQL or cloud-native databases
- Experience in database migration projects (on-prem to cloud)
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps integration
