Role Value Proposition
This role sits within the MGCC Tax Team and supports UK/ Ireland Indirect Tax Team of various locations. The over-arching tax strategy in MetLife is to ensure the right taxes are paid at the right time wherever MetLife operates around the world. This involves several facets, including:
- A commitment to compliance;
- Effective risk management; and
- Constructive and transparent relationship with tax authorities.
This role will support delivering on that strategy, as demonstrated by the key responsibilities below.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of VAT returns:
Information gathering: Collect all the requisite documents either from ERP system, share point or relevant teams e.g. purchase and sales invoices, credit notes, debit notes, financial statements, etc.
Data validation: Verify all the documents, consider the suggested exclusions, manual adjustment and ensure overall accuracy.
Workpaper preparation - Summarize VAT on purchases (input tax) and VAT on sales (output tax) in structured reconciliation workpapers.
Reconciliations - Provide summarized schedules to tax teams for VAT return filing along with systematic reconciliations.
- Assist the preparation of annual adjustments and voluntary disclosures (if any) to tax authorities in case of errors.
- Issue escalation and exception handling- identify unusual transactions, exceptions or potential compliance risks and escalate them appropriately
- Audit readiness - Maintain documentation trails for tax authority audits and internal reviews including support preparation for, and responses to, tax authority audits, including information gathering.
- Support process improvement efforts.
- Tracking on potential amendments under VAT law, assessing its impact on business/ process and reassessing processes to comply with regulatory changes.
Required
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritize tasks, and deliver outputs within strict compliance deadlines.
- Strong command of written and oral English for preparing workpapers, drafting reconciliations, and engaging with stakeholders.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
- Good understanding of VAT/GST law with 1 to 3 years experience
Preferred
- CA Intermediate.
- EMEA (Ireland, UK, France etc.) VAT law knowledge.
