Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Design Leadership:
- Lead the design and development of advanced mechanical systems, components, and subsystems.
- Provide specialized technical expertise and guidance in the mechanical design process, ensuring designs meet functional, performance, safety, and cost requirements.
- Oversee and direct the development of technical specifications, design calculations, drawings, and prototypes.
Project Management and Execution:
- Manage and coordinate complex design engineering projects, ensuring that milestones, budgets, and timelines are adhered to.
- Lead the technical aspects of the project and collaborate with project managers, other engineering disciplines, and stakeholders to meet project goals.
- Evaluate and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle, proposing solutions and ensuring smooth execution.
Innovation and Problem Solving:
- Drive innovation by applying advanced engineering principles and methodologies to develop novel solutions for complex design challenges.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical design issues during the development and testing phases.
- Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reductions, and performance enhancements in mechanical systems and components.
Technical Mentorship and Guidance:
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior engineers and design teams, helping them enhance their skills and grow professionally.
- Conduct design reviews, ensuring that junior engineers designs meet the required standards and align with project goals.
- Foster a collaborative, learning environment within the team by sharing knowledge and best practices.
Design Reviews and Documentation:
- Lead and participate in design reviews, ensuring that designs meet all technical, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Prepare and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including design reports, specifications, test plans, and analysis reports.
- Ensure proper documentation of design changes, approvals, and validation processes.
Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams such as manufacturing, quality control, electrical engineering, and procurement to ensure designs are feasible and meet manufacturing requirements.
- Interface with suppliers and external partners to evaluate materials, components, and technologies for integration into mechanical designs.
- Support the integration of mechanical systems into larger systems, ensuring compatibility and performance.
Testing, Validation, and Implementation:
- Lead the testing, validation, and optimization of mechanical designs to ensure they meet performance and safety criteria.
- Oversee the implementation and transition of designs from prototype to production, ensuring smooth handoff to manufacturing and other departments.
- Analyze test results, address performance issues, and iterate designs as needed to meet project specifications.
Continuous Improvement and Industry Leadership:
- Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in mechanical design and engineering.
- Implement industry best practices and cutting-edge technologies in design processes and methodologies.
- Contribute to the development of design standards and engineering procedures within the company.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: 8+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering, with a proven track record in leading complex design projects.
Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD, or similar).
- Expertise in mechanical design analysis and tools (FEA, CFD, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in mechanical design.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts and ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
- Experience in conducting design reviews and providing technical guidance to junior engineers.
