Specialist Engineer-Consultant-Civil-Design Engineering

Key Responsibilities:

Consultancy & Advisory:

• Provide expert consultancy services to clients, guiding them through the design, planning, and execution phases of civil engineering projects.
• Offer advice on the most suitable design solutions for infrastructure projects, ensuring safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
• Assist clients in navigating complex regulatory requirements and ensuring compliance with local and international building codes and environmental standards.
• Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to provide clients with well-informed recommendations.

Design Engineering Expertise:

• Lead the design process for civil engineering projects, including roads, bridges, drainage systems, utilities, and other infrastructure elements.
• Develop and review detailed design calculations, technical reports, and drawings for various civil engineering works.
• Ensure that all designs meet the specified project requirements, adhere to industry standards, and are optimized for performance, safety, and sustainability.
• Provide technical guidance and support for the development of conceptual designs, schematic plans, and final design documentation.

Project Management & Coordination:

• Manage the technical aspects of civil engineering projects, ensuring designs are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the quality expectations.
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure designs are integrated effectively into the overall project plan.
• Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor project progress and ensure that construction activities comply with the approved designs and specifications.
• Review and approve designs, calculations, and specifications submitted by junior engineers or contractors.

Quality Control & Compliance:

• Ensure that all civil designs are in compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and quality of engineering designs.
• Identify and resolve any design-related issues, discrepancies, or conflicts to maintain project quality and compliance.
• Conduct technical audits and reviews of designs and construction practices to ensure adherence to project specifications and legal requirements.

Client Interaction & Reporting:

• Act as the main technical point of contact for clients, providing regular updates and addressing any concerns throughout the project lifecycle.
• Prepare and present detailed reports, design proposals, and project updates to clients and senior management.
• Ensure effective communication between clients, contractors, and internal project teams to guarantee smooth project execution.

Team Collaboration & Mentorship:

• Collaborate closely with other engineering specialists and departments to ensure cohesive and integrated project outcomes.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and staff, providing support in technical matters and promoting knowledge-sharing within the team.
• Encourage continuous improvement by contributing to team development through training, workshops, and technical discussions.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

• Stay up to date with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in civil engineering design and infrastructure development.
• Encourage and implement innovative design solutions to improve project efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Contribute to the development and enhancement of internal design standards, processes, and methodologies.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a specialized area is a plus.
• Experience: 8+ years of experience in civil engineering design, with a focus on infrastructure, and at least 3 years in a consultant role.
• Industry Expertise: Extensive experience in designing infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, utilities, and drainage systems.
• Licensing: Professional Engineer (PE) license or Chartered Engineer status is preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

• Civil Design Expertise: Advanced knowledge of civil engineering design principles, including site development, structural design, transportation engineering, and environmental considerations.
• Consultancy Skills: Ability to provide expert advice to clients, conduct feasibility studies, and offer solutions tailored to client needs.
• Software Proficiency: Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, SAP, etc.) and engineering analysis tools.
• Project Management: Strong project management skills, with experience overseeing technical aspects of projects, from design through to construction.
• Client Relationship Management: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong client relationships.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify challenges and implement effective solutions.
• Quality Control & Compliance: Knowledge of quality control processes and ensuring adherence to regulations, industry standards, and project specifications.
