Job Summary
The Compensation & Benefits Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, administering, and continuously improving the organization's compensation and benefits programs across the APAC region. This role partners with HR business partners, Finance, Legal, and business leaders to ensure pay competitiveness, internal equity, statutory compliance, cost effectiveness,s and exceptional employee experience. You will provide analysis, recommendations, and operational support for salary structures, incentive plans, benefits programs, surveys, HRIS/payroll integrations, and total rewards communications. 24 years of experience in Compensation & Benefits / Total Rewards with strong exposure to Insurance Broking, Benefits Consulting, or Corporate Benefits Administration.
Key Responsibilities & What will you need to succeed in this role
Compensation Strategy & Governance
- Partner with HR leadership to define compensation philosophy and total rewards strategy aligned to business objectives and employer brand.
- Design and maintain job families, job levels, job evaluation methodologies, salary bands, and grading structures.
- Lead annual compensation cycle (merit, promotions, market adjustments), including budgeting, calibration sessions, modeling, and approvals.
- Develop and administer short-term incentive plans (annual bonus), commission structures, and variable pay schemes; set targets, rules, and payout calculations.
- Conduct pay-equity and internal parity analyses; recommend fixes and monitor remediation actions.
- Partner with business leaders on compensation decisions for promotions, special hires, retention offers and restructures.
Market Benchmarking & Analytics
- Manage external market salary surveys select vendors, coordinate participation, analyze results and translate into actionable recommendations.
- Build and maintain compensation models, market positioning analyses, and what-if financial scenarios.
- Produce regular dashboards and management reports (cost of hire, comp spend, variable payouts, salary distribution, equity gaps, comp adjustments).
- Provide data-driven recommendations to HR and business on competitive compensation strategies.
Benefits Program Design & Administration
- Own end-to-end benefits administration covering health insurance (medical, dental, vision, where applicable), group life, disability, retirement savings / provident fund, gratuity, paid time off policies, leaves of absence, wellness programs, EAP,s and other voluntary benefits.
- Evaluate, design, and implement benefit programs (statutory and voluntary) to drive attraction, retention, and employee well-being.
- Manage benefits vendor relationships (insurers, TPAs, wellness vendors), negotiate contracts, renewals, SLA,s and cost containment strategies.
- Oversee digital benefits enrollment platforms and ensure seamless integration with HRIS/payroll.
Compliance, Policy & Process
- Ensure programs comply with local statutory requirements across APAC (tax, social security, labor laws) and company policy; work with Legal/Finance for compliance & tax treatment.
- Draft, review and update compensation & benefits policies, SOPs, and job aids.
- Conduct periodic audits (payroll, benefits enrollment, and statutory filings) and corrective actions.
Payroll & HRIS Integration
- Work closely with Payroll and HRIS teams to ensure accurate and timely payroll input, off-cycle payments, and benefit deductions.
- Lead requirements for HRIS/payroll configuration related to compensation elements, bonus calculations and benefit workflows.
- Support system implementations and upgrades affecting comp & benefits (testing, UAT, training).
Total Rewards Communications & Change Management
- Develop clear, employee-facing communications explaining pay structure, bonus mechanics, benefit offerings and enrollment instructions.
- Train HR business partners and managers on compensation processes, merit calibration and pay decisions.
- Lead change management for major program launches (new benefits, plan redesigns, equity rollouts).
Employee Support & Transactional Tasks
- Serve as an escalation point for complex compensation and benefits queries; handle salary benchmarking requests, offer structuring and exit settlements.
- Oversee accurate processing of joining, promotion, separation payouts, gratuity and statutory calculations.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of compensation and related employee data.
Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Lead special projects: pay equity remediation, rewards redesign, M&A integration of comp & ben programs, international mobility compensation.
- Continuously improve processes to reduce turnaround time, increase accuracy and enhance employee experience (automation, self-service).
Required
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Economics or related field.
- 24 years of experience in Compensation & Benefits / Total Rewards with strong exposure to Insurance Broking, Benefits Consulting, or Corporate Benefits Administration
- Strong analytical skills Excel modelling, data analysis, and experience with compensation survey analysis.
- Hands-on experience with HRIS/payroll systems (Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle, UKG, or equivalents) and ATS/HR tools.
- Demonstrable experience managing benefits vendors and insurance renewals.
- Solid understanding of statutory benefits and labor laws in India and broader APAC (or ability to manage local consultants).
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to translate data into business recommendations.
- High level of discretion and confidentiality.
Preferred
- Certification in Compensation or Total Rewards (e.g., WorldatWork, CIPD) or an advanced degree.
- Experience in an Insurance Broker, Consulting firm, or Benefits Administration role.
- SQL or BI tool knowledge (Power BI, Tableau) for reporting.
- Clear communicator; experience delivering training and employee communications.
