Job Summary
The
Special Educator is responsible for supporting students with diverse learning needs, including learning disabilities and developmental challenges. The educator will design individualized learning plans, provide academic support, and work closely with teachers and parents to ensure inclusive education and student success.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support & Intervention
- Identify students with learning difficulties or special educational needs.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) based on student needs.
- Provide one-on-one and small-group instruction to support academic development.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to suit different learning styles.
- Support students with reading, writing, mathematics, and comprehension skills.
Assessment & Monitoring
- Conduct assessments to identify learning gaps and developmental challenges.
- Monitor student progress and update IEP goals regularly.
- Maintain detailed records of interventions and student performance.
- Prepare progress reports and share feedback with parents and teachers.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Work closely with class teachers to modify lesson plans and classroom strategies.
- Collaborate with parents, counselors, and school leadership to support student growth.
- Participate in parent-teacher meetings to discuss student progress.
- Provide guidance to teachers on inclusive teaching practices.
Curriculum Adaptation
- Modify curriculum content to meet individual learning needs.
- Develop remedial learning materials and teaching aids.
- Use assistive technologies and learning tools where required.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Participate in staff meetings, workshops, and professional development sessions.
- Stay updated with special education practices and inclusive teaching strategies.
- Follow school policies and ensure compliance with inclusive education standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Special Education (Mandatory).
- B.Ed. in Special Education / Diploma in Special Education (Mandatory).
- Certification recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) (Preferred/Required as per regulations).
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience working with students with special needs.
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorders.
- Ability to develop and implement IEPs effectively.
- Strong observation and assessment skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and adaptability.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and parents.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in inclusive school settings.
- Experience supporting students with learning disabilities and behavioral challenges.
- Familiarity with assistive learning tools and remedial teaching methods.
