Bellatrix Aerospace is a leading space technology company focused on developing innovative propulsion systems and advanced space solutions. The Space Mechanisms Division (SMD) is responsible for the end-to-end design and development of spacecraft mechanisms aligned with mission requirements.
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Space Mechanism Engineer to join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Space Mechanisms Division. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and validation of next-generation space systems and mechanisms. You will be involved throughout the product lifecycle from concept and prototyping to build and testing. The ideal candidate is passionate about hands-on engineering, including designing, prototyping, building, and testing hardware.
• Design and analyze spacecraft mechanisms while collaborating with cross-functional teams to derive and refine requirements.
• Develop mechanisms capable of withstanding launch loads and ensuring reliable stow and release behavior, optimizing for performance and manufacturability.
• Create detailed engineering documentation, including drawings, interface control documents (ICDs), and design guidelines.
• Own designs through the complete lifecycle, including build, integration, and qualification testing.
• Prepare test plans, work instructions, and assembly and integration documentation.
• Collaborate with technicians and manufacturing engineers to troubleshoot and resolve hardware issues.
• Support launch and test campaigns as required, including evenings and weekends.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in aerospace engineering or spacecraft systems.
• Strong fundamentals in kinematic synthesis, pneumatic/hydraulic actuation, mechatronics, and instrumentation.
• Solid understanding of mechanical systems, including structural strength, stability, and fatigue failure modes.
• Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and surface treatments.
• Expertise in first-principles analysis, including hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
• Proficiency in CAD tools such as NX, SolidWorks, or Creo, and FEA tools like ANSYS.
• Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 standards for design and drafting.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to independently diagnose and communicate technical challenges and solutions.
