Key Responsibilities
- Omnichannel Solution Architecture:
- Architect and design high-performance, event-driven backend systems for core omnichannel services: Real-Time Inventory Visibility, Fulfillment Orchestration, Order Routing, and Store Inventory Management.
- Lead the technical strategy for integrating our e-commerce platforms (with our in-store systems (Point-of-Sale, Store Inventory Management).
- Create resilient and scalable designs for high-volume events like product launches, promotions, and holiday traffic that impact both online and store systems.
Technical Leadership in Retail Domains:
- Serve as the subject matter expert for the Order Management System (OMS), inventory systems, and fulfillment logic. Make critical build-vs.-buy decisions in this space.
- Define the architecture for real-time data synchronization between distributed systems (DC, stores, cloud) to provide a single source of truth for product and inventory data.
- Establish patterns for store-centric services that empower associates and enable seamless customer experiences like mobile checkout and easy returns.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner directly with business leaders in Store Operations, Supply Chain, and Logistics to translate complex operational processes into elegant technical solutions.
- Work alongside Enterprise, Data, and Integration Architects to ensure end-to-end coherence of omnichannel architecture.
- Mentor engineering teams on best practices for building fault-tolerant systems that handle the unique challenges of the physical retail environment (e.g., network latency in stores, offline capabilities).
- Hands-On Prototyping & Modernization:
- Lead by example by building proof-of-concepts for new omnichannel capabilities and modernizing legacy store integration patterns to a cloud-native, API-first approach.
- Qualifications & Experience Required:
- 12+ years of software development experience with a focus on backend systems, with at least 4+ years in a Solution Architect role within a retail environment.
- Proven, hands-on experience architecting and implementing omnichannel solutions such as:
- Order Management Systems (OMS)
- Real-Time Inventory Visibility & Availability.
- Fulfillment Orchestration (BOPIS, Ship-From-Store, SFS).
- Point-of-Sale (POS) integration.
- Deep technical expertise in:
- Cloud Platforms: GCP (preferred), AWS, or Azure.
- Languages: Java (Spring Boot) or Node.js.
- Event-Driven Architecture: Pub/Sub, Kafka.
- APIs & Integration: REST, GraphQL, and async messaging patterns.
- Data: SQL (PostgreSQL, Spanner) and caching strategies (Redis, etc.).
- Strong understanding of domain-driven design (DDD) and how to model complex domains like Orders, Inventory, and Fulfillment.
