Role Summary:
We seek an eCommerce Solution Consultant to join our dynamic development team responsible for building and maintaining our global large-scale eCommerce platform.
This role requires strong expertise in the HCL Commerce platform (formerly known as Websphere Commerce). Extensive experience across Java, SQL, React, TypeScript, Node.js, and Apollo is required. With a keen personal focus on delivering responsive, high-performance software solutions for a seamless customer experience.
As an eCommerce Solution Consultant, you will both support and work within cross-functional team's delivering smaller agile changes to large strategic projects. You will freely share your experience and technical knowledge to support the whole eCommerce Development team. You will be a bridge between Architecture and provide high-level solution designs to be followed by the delivery team's. You will also be responsible for hands-on delivery of changes, so your skills stay current.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of full stack updates and additions to our Headless web stores.
- Work closely with our BA's, UX Designers, and Backend, Frontend, MiddleTier engineers to transform business requirements into technical solutions, ensuring a seamless and cohesive e-commerce experience.
- Focus on optimizing the performance of the sites. This includes updating and refactoring our extensive caching solution, which is provided by Akamai at the front door, but also relies on several layers of caching technologies deeper in the application stack.
- Implement data fetching and state management through Apollo Client and integrate the UI with RESTful and GraphQL APIs built with Node.js and Apollo Server.
- Be an advocate for and follow best practices for software development, including clean, maintainable code, automated testing, and code reviews.
- Mentor junior and mid-level developers, offering guidance on all layers of our tech stack on architecture, design and best practices.
- Work with the architecture team to ensure that downstream architectural considerations and roadmap are fed into ongoing feature work
- Research, select and implement appropriate tools, templates and libraries including key emerging technologies for the creation of quality software components and apply through proofs of concept
- Perform design and frequent code reviews and be accountable for all design decisions
- Ensure non-functional requirements are met
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- The job requires at least 8 years experience working in IT with relevant technologies like Java HTML, CSS, XML, SQL, RESTful Web Services, Json, Ajax, SOAP Services, React.js, GraphQL, Node.js, Apollo (client/server), Typescript, various Messaging tech's , and design patterns
- To stress our key needs, we will be looking for -
- Strong understanding of HCL Commerce and its ecosystem.
- Experience with Apollo Client and GraphQL queries, mutation handling, and state management
- Solid knowledge of Node.js and how to integrate the front-end with back-end services
- Experience with React
- Experience with Gitlab and their GitFlow version control process
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, focusing on user-centric solutions
- Minimum of 5 years providing technical leadership to development team members
- Working experience of documenting, designing and implementing large scale performant solutions
- Detailed understanding of HCL Commerce technologies including search, with a clear understanding of technology roadmap
- Working knowledge of the browser render path, TTFB, TTI and TTFP
- Familiarity with the challenges of building and scaling eCommerce platforms is a plus.
- Previous experience in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
- Development experience with Headless CMS's solutions like Bloomreach would be beneficial.
- Understanding of web security and compliance matters like PCI, PII and GDPR
- Experience of performance analysis and tuning
- Experience running regression tests, stress testing, and methodologies and best practices
- Willing to learn new processes/tools and apply to daily work
- Familiarity with SEO compliancy matters

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work in partnership and across distributed teams. We rely on frequent show and tells of working software, strong technical leadership qualities, including the ability to mentor junior developers and advocate for best practices in development.
Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
