Role Overview

We are looking for a Head – Design Engineering to lead and build a high-impact design function across both pre-sales and post-sales stages. This role will be responsible for driving electrical and structural design excellence for housing society and C&I (Commercial & Industrial) solar projects, while ensuring seamless alignment with business and project execution teams.

A big mandate for this role also involves working closely with business head to align SolarSquare's P&L and strategic objectives into our design and process language.

The ideal candidate will come with strong experience in the solar/renewable energy space and have a proven track record of building teams, processes, and scalable design systems

Key Responsibilities:

Design Leadership (Pre-Sales & Post-Sales)

● Lead end-to-end design function across pre-sales (feasibility, proposals) and post-sales (detailed engineering, execution drawings)

● Ensure high-quality, accurate, and scalable design outputs aligned with business needs

Technical Expertise

● Oversee and validate electrical and structural designs for:

● Housing society projects

● C&I (Commercial & Industrial) installations

● Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety norms, and regulatory requirements

● Drive continuous improvement in design efficiency and cost optimization

Team Management & Capability Building

● Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing design engineering team

● Define and track KPIs for the design team (quality, TAT, cost optimization, error rates)

● Drive performance management and capability development within the team

Cross-Functional Collaboration

● Act as a bridge between Sales, Operations, and Project teams

● Ensure seamless communication and integration of SolarSquare's design language and standards across functions

● Support business teams with quick turnaround on proposals and technical clarification

Process & SOP Development

● Build and standardize SOPs for design and project execution workflows

● Drive process improvements to enhance speed, accuracy, and scalability

● Implement best practices for documentation, version control, and quality checks

Ideal Candidate Profile

● 10–12+ years of experience in design engineering, preferably in the solar/renewable energy industry

● Strong expertise in electrical and structural design for solar projects

● Experience handling C&I and large-scale residential (society) projects

● Proven experience in team management and leadership roles

● Strong understanding of design tools, standards, and compliance frameworks
