Software Testing (Manual Automation)
A Software Tester (also known as a Quality Assurance or QA Engineer) is responsible for checking software for defects, bugs, and errors before it is released to the public. They ensure the product meets the required standards and functions correctly.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Test Planning: Creating detailed test cases based on project requirements.
- Manual Testing: Executing tests manually to find bugs that automated tools might miss (User Experience, UI glitches).
- Automation Testing: Writing scripts using tools to automate repetitive testing tasks to save time.
- Bug Reporting: Documenting and tracking bugs using tools like Jira; communicating with developers to ensure they are fixed.
- Regression Testing: Testing the software again after changes are made to ensure old features still work.
- Experience Requirements:
- Freshers (0-1 year): Knowledge of the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) and basic Manual Testing concepts. Knowing basic Java/Python is a plus for future automation.
- Mid-Level (2-5 years): Expertise in Automation tools like Selenium or Appium. Ability to design automation frameworks from scratch.
- Senior Level (5+ years): Leading a QA team, managing end-to-end testing strategies, and integrating testing into the CI/CD pipeline (DevOps).
- Technical Skills Required:
- Manual Tools: Jira, Bugzilla, HP ALM.
- Automation Tools: Selenium (with Java/Python), TestNG, Cucumber, or Cypress.
- API Testing: Postman or RestAssured.
- Database: Basic SQL to verify data integrity.
- Average Salary:
- Entry Level (Manual): 2.5 Lakhs - 4 Lakhs per year.
- Entry Level (Automation): 4 Lakhs - 6 Lakhs per year.
- Experienced: 9 Lakhs - 18 Lakhs+ per year.
