Role Summary

We are looking for SDETs to join the quality engineering team for the Versa Messaging Service (VMS), a Kubernetes-based appliance that distributes identity, posture and threat-context data. VMS has a Go microservices data plane, a Java/Spring Boot control plane, and a gRPC/Protobuf streaming interface consumed by other Versa products.

You will build and run the automation, test harnesses and tooling that tell us whether a VMS release is ready to ship. You will work closely with developers, DevOps and other product teams, and you will own test areas end to end, from design to automation to triage.

Key Responsibilities

Test automation

• Build and maintain automated integration and end-to-end tests for the publish/subscribe path across record types, services and tenants.
• Write tests for the Go microservices and the Java/Spring Boot control plane, including API-level and gRPC streaming tests.
• Implement contract and schema-evolution tests for the gRPC/Protobuf interface so that deployed VOS clients stay backward compatible.
• Develop reusable test libraries, simulators, load generators and data generators in Go, Java or Python.

Installation, upgrade and lifecycle testing

• Execute and automate the install and upgrade matrix: ISO and package installs, single-node and multi-node topologies, FIPS and non-FIPS builds.
• Automate in-place upgrade, rollback and database migration scenarios, including failure and recovery paths.
• Test shell-based installation and lifecycle scripts on Linux.

Performance and resilience

• Design and run load, scale and soak tests; collect and analyze throughput, latency, resource-usage and memory-growth data.
• Run failover and recovery tests and record RTO and RPO results.
• Contribute to the capacity model and the documented supported limits.

Security and compliance

• Support validation of FIPS builds and hardening (STIG or equivalent) requirements.
• Test TLS/mTLS, certificate and PKI scenarios, and authentication and integration protocols (RADIUS, SCIM, syslog).

CI/CD and quality practices

• Integrate automated suites into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or GitLab CI) with automated quality gates.
• Triage failures, file high-quality defects with root-cause analysis, and track escaped defects.
• Work with developers to improve unit and component test coverage and promote shift-left practices.
• Contribute to release-readiness reporting across concurrent release branches.
• Coordinate with other product teams on cross-product compatibility testing.

Required Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech. or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication or equivalent.
• 3 to 8 years of experience in software testing, with a strong focus on test automation.
• Solid programming skills in Go or Java, plus Python or a similar scripting language.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes (pods, services, ingress, storage, Helm or operators) and Docker.
• Good Linux knowledge and shell scripting skills.
• Working knowledge of gRPC and Protocol Buffers.
• Understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP and TLS, with hands-on experience debugging network and service issues.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins or GitLab CI.
• Strong analytical and debugging skills, and clear written and verbal communication.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience testing on-premises or appliance software, including ISO/package installation, upgrade and rollback.
• Exposure to Kafka or other messaging and streaming systems.
• Experience with performance testing tools and profiling (for example Locust, k6, JMeter, pprof).
• Exposure to FIPS, STIG or Common Criteria testing.
• Familiarity with mTLS, PKI, syslog, RADIUS, SCIM, SAML or OAuth2/OIDC.
• Familiarity with Prometheus and Grafana.
• Exposure to AWS, Azure or GCP.
