About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a highly motivated Senior Engineering Manager to lead AI/Generative AI initiatives within the HR Information Technology organization. This role will drive innovation by owning the GenAI strategy and endtoend delivery across HR initiatives. The Senior Engineering Manager will lead the design, development, and operationalization of Generative AI solutions, translating complex business problems into scalable and compliant GenAI use cases. The role requires close collaboration with Product, HR, Risk, and Technology stakeholders to ensure alignment with enterprise AI governance standards and successful delivery of impactful solutions.

As a transformational leader, you will collaborate closely with agile teams and product managers to deliver impactful outcomes through enterprise approved frameworks and modern engineering practices. You will bring deep technical insight into all components of the solution landscape and leverage that expertise to guide strategic decisionmaking. You will champion process improvements, operational excellence, and scalable capacity planning to ensure the organization is equipped to meet ongoing technical and business demands


In this role, you will:

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team or teams of experienced engineers and engineering managers in roles with moderate complexity and risk, responsible for building high quality capabilities with modern technology
  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release
  • Partner with, engage and influence architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next generation domain architecture and enable application migration paths to target architecture for example cloud readiness, application modernization, data strategy
  • Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving escalated resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards
  • Determine appropriate strategy and actions to act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to meet moderate to high risk deliverables and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement
  • Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design, as needed
  • Interpret, develop and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of technology with moderate complexity, as well as identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk
  • Collaborate with, partner with and influence Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices
  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources to ensure commitments are met and align with strategic objectives in technology engineering
  • Hire, build and guide a culture of talent development to have the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for product areas and products to meet business objectives and strategy, as well as conduct performance management for engineers and managers


Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience


Desired Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of IT experience, including 3+ years in AI/Gen AI, and 3+ years in engineering leadership and people management.
  • 6+ years of experience in technology delivery, with 3+ years of handson experience in building and deploying AI / GenAI solutions.
  • Lead, architect and deliver Agentic AI platforms leveraging LLMs, RAG pipelines, vector databases, orchestration frameworks, and agenttoagent communication to enable autonomous and semiautonomous HR workflows and integrate with champion platforms (e.g., Workday, ServiceNow)
  • Closely work with the team to design scalable AI architectures that support multistep reasoning, tool invocation, workflow orchestration, and humanintheloop patterns, ensuring reliability, observability, and performance in production environments.
  • Translate complex HR business processes into agentic workflows, leveraging GenAI, LLMs, retrievalaugmented generation (RAG), and agenttoagent coordination to enable decisionmaking, task execution, and intelligent routing to human agents when required.
  • Strong understanding of LLM evaluation metrics, golden dataset design, faithfulness/grounding checks, hallucination scoring, and automated model-graded evaluations.
  • Experience implementing observability and monitoring for AI systems (logs, traces, metrics, token usage, latency, and error tracking).
  • Ensure responsible AI and security controls-guardrails, PII filtering, DLP, red-teaming, and safe deployment practices.
  • Strong understanding of AI and ML algorithms, spanning supervised/unsupervised learning, deep learning, transformers, optimization methods, and practical application of these techniques in production systems.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders, HR partners, and product owners on GenAI capabilities and limitations.
  • Influence roadmap decisions and investment priorities for AI initiatives.
  • Communicate solution value, risks, and progress to senior leadership.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Hire, mentor and guide talent development of direct reports to build the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for the supported product areas/products
  • Collaborate and consult with the Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices.
