Software Engineering Manager- Build and Release Engineering

We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for build, release engineering, source code administration, and sandbox tooling supporting large-scale systems, including the release pipeline for HPE Networking's JUNOS and EVO platforms. This is a working manager role: you will set direction and manage a high-performing team while staying directly engaged in the engineering work. The role combines technical depth with people leadership, requiring the ability to build and mentor high-performing engineers while driving strategic DevSecOps initiatives across the organization.

As a leader, you will define and execute the roadmap for CI/CD infrastructure, source code administration, and developer sandbox environments; partner with cross-functional engineering, release, and product managers; and establish best practices that enable scalable, reliable, high-velocity development workflows, all while remaining close enough to the code and systems to guide technical decisions credibly and unblock your team when needed.

What you will do :

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team responsible for build, release engineering, source code administration, and sandbox tooling for large-scale systems, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement, while staying directly engaged in the codebase and infrastructure.
• Personally contribute to architecture, design reviews, and complex debugging for CI/CD platforms, source control systems, and sandbox infrastructure, not just direct the work from a distance.
• Own the architecture, scalability, and reliability of enterprise-wide CI/CD, source code management, and sandbox platforms, staying technically deep enough to make and defend design decisions.
• Define and drive the CI/CD, source code administration, and automation strategy for JUNOS and EVO platform delivery, aligning with broader engineering and business objectives.
• Oversee the development of robust automation frameworks for build, test, release, source code administration, and infrastructure orchestration, contributing code and scripts directly where it accelerates delivery.
• Establish and enforce best practices for version control, branching strategies, artifact management, and release governance across large, distributed codebases.
• Drive DevSecOps practices across the build and release pipeline, including generation and management of Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) and Vulnerability Exploitability eXchange (VEX).
• Drive adoption of AI/ML-driven automation and observability to improve pipeline efficiency, detect issues early, and reduce cycle time.
• Ensure production CI/CD, SCM, and sandbox systems meet high standards for availability, performance, scalability, and security; act as a technical escalation point during critical incidents.
• Lead incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement efforts across CI/CD, SCM, and sandbox infrastructure, often diagnosing issues directly alongside the team.
• Influence and guide organizational DevSecOps maturity, setting standards and driving consistency across teams.

What you need to bring :

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• 15 -20 years of experience in build/release engineering, source code administration, or infrastructure engineering for large-scale systems, with increasing leadership responsibility and a track record of staying technically engaged.
• 5+ years of experience managing or leading high-performing engineering teams while continuing to write code, review designs, or troubleshoot production systems directly.
• Proven experience architecting and operating large-scale CI/CD, source code management( Gerrit, SVN, Gitlab, Github) and sandbox systems in complex, multi-repository environments.
• Deep expertise in CI/CD tools and frameworks (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) at enterprise scale.
• Experience generating and managing SBOM and VEX reports, and integrating supply chain security and vulnerability management into build and release pipelines.
• Strong proficiency in programming/scripting (Python, Bash, Go, or similar), with the ability to personally build and debug automation, not just review it.
• Strong Linux systems expertise and operational troubleshooting skills for C/C++/Rust-based build systems.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence technical direction, backed by credible, direct engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience migrating large-scale build, release, or source code systems across geographies.
• Experience applying AI/ML techniques for intelligent automation, observability, or anomaly detection.
• Expertise in containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, and executive-level presentation skills.
