Position Title: Software Engineering Lead, Supply Chain Integrations
Description:
- As one of the largest retail organizations in the world, we operate a network of distribution centers that are the backbone of our supply chain. These facilities power our ability to get products to stores and customers quickly, efficiently, and reliably.
- We are transforming our distribution center technology to be smarter, more connected, and more resilient—enabling real-time visibility, operational efficiency, and seamless integration across systems. We're looking for a Software Engineering Lead who will champion engineering excellence, automated quality, and innovative problem-solving while leading a small, high-performing team.
What will you be doing
As a Software Engineering Lead for Distribution Center Technology, you will:
- Lead and mentor a team of 1-4 software engineers in designing, building, and maintaining mission-critical systems that support distribution center operations.
- Partner closely with product owners, operations leaders, and engineering peers to deliver high-impact technology that improves safety, accuracy, and efficiency in our facilities.
- Design and implement automated test strategies early in the software lifecycle, leveraging TDD and BDD principles.
- Work hands-on with testing frameworks such as JUnit, Playwright, and Cucumber to ensure robust, reliable solutions.
- Drive the adoption of observability and monitoring tools—including application monitoring, session replay, and centralized logging—to proactively detect and resolve production issues.
- Oversee the full SDLC for distribution center systems, ensuring maintainability, scalability, and security are built in from the start.
- Facilitate technical design sessions, conduct thorough code reviews, and lead process improvement initiatives enforcing sound design, coding, and testing standards
- Develop accurate estimates and assist other team members with the estimation process in an Agile workflow
- Analyze, define, and document technical requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, environments, interfaces, and testing.
- Execute development of business logic, desktop-web screen layouts, and necessary system programs.
- Foster a culture of software craftsmanship and unbreakable quality across the team.

- Demonstrated success delivering reliable, high-performance software in operational or logistics environments.
- Expertise in TDD/BDD and modern automated testing practices.
- Proficiency with JUnit, Playwright, Cucumber, or similar frameworks.
- Experience with observability platforms (e.g., New Relic, Datadog, Dynatrace) and centralized logging tools (e.g., Splunk, ELK stack).
- Working experience of object-oriented concepts, patterns, and practices on the Java platform
- Experience using a Java web application framework (Thyme Leaf, SpringBoot, Struts2, Spring MVC, etc.).
- Experience with Oracle database technology and PL/SQL development language.
- Proven ability to mentor engineers, set technical direction, and drive alignment with business goals.
- Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and operational teams.

Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Retail, distribution center, or warehouse technology experience
- Knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS), warehouse control systems (WCS), or material handling equipment integrations such as Oracle RDM, Manhattan WMOS, etc.
