Job Description

What's The Role

As a Software Engineer specializing in SAP S/4HANA ABAP, you'll have the opportunity to apply your strong S/4HANA development experience to design, build, and optimize custom solutions that drive real impact across the business. You'll collaborate with cross‑functional teams in FI/CO, MM, SD, PP, EWM, TM, and more, working on end‑to‑end enhancements, integrations, and extensions using modern tools and technologies such as ABAP OO, CDS, OData, Fiori integration, AMDP, and ADT in Eclipse. This role also offers the chance to deepen or apply your knowledge in Clean Core concepts, RAP, and SAP BTP – giving you room to innovate, expand your technical capabilities, and contribute meaningfully to high‑value SAP initiatives.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Translate functional specifications into robust technical designs and develop scalable custom objects such as reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms, and workflows.
  • Build modern S/4HANA development artifacts including CDS views with annotations, OData services, AMDP, ABAP OO, BOPF, and RAP.
  • Develop and optimize Fiori back‑end logic and integrate with UI5 applications using OData or RFC, partnering closely with UX teams for end‑to‑end solutions.
  • Apply Clean Core principles and leverage in‑app or key‑user extensibility where it adds value.
  • Optimize performance using tools like SQL Trace (ST05), SAT, and ATC; implement strong error handling and logging; and perform thorough technical unit testing.
  • Contribute to sprint planning, estimation, code reviews, and transport management activities (CTS/CTS+).
  • Support Fit‑to‑Standard workshops, prepare technical documentation, and assist during cutover and hypercare phases.
  • Build and maintain integrations using OData/REST, IDoc, RFC/BAPI, and optionally Event Mesh, with added advantage for experience in SAP Integration Suite.
  • Deliver data migration solutions using BAPIs, IDocs, LSMW, or third‑party tools, and support ALE configuration and issue resolution.
  • Work closely with functional consultants and business SMEs to clarify requirements, propose best‑practice solutions, and ensure alignment.
  • Provide L2/L3 support, conduct root‑cause analysis, and communicate impacts and risks clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5–8 years of overall ABAP development experience, including 3+ years in S/4HANA upgrades and implementations (greenfield, brownfield, or selective data transition).
  • Strong expertise in ABAP OO, CDS with UI annotations, OData, AMDP, IDocs, and performance tuning.
  • Proficient with ADT (Eclipse), ATC, transport management, Code Inspector, and SEGW or RAP tooling.
  • Solid understanding of at least two S/4HANA functional areas (e.g., MM/SD, FI/CO, PP/EWM/TM).
  • Proven experience delivering Enhancements/Exits/BAdIs, Adobe/Smart Forms, and Workflows.
  • Clear understanding of Clean Core principles and extensibility options (In‑App/Key User vs. Side‑by‑Side).
  • Hands-on experience with RAP, including service/behavior definitions, projections, and UI exposure.
  • Exposure to SAP BTP (Cloud Foundry), CAP, Event Mesh, and CPI is a plus.
  • Awareness of Fiori/UI5 for backend integration and debugging is a plus.
  • Understanding of authorization objects, S/4 role impacts, and data privacy is a plus.
  • Industry domain experience (e.g., Energy, Utilities, Manufacturing) is a plus.
  • Experience with tools such as Eclipse ADT, ATC, Code Inspector, SEGW/RAP tooling, S/4HANA OP 2023+, Solution Manager/ChaRM, Azure Boards, and GitHub (preferred).
  • Essential: Working knowledge of Generative AI concepts and developer productivity patterns; a relevant GenAI certification is a plus. Good to have exposure to GitHub Copilot and/or SAP Joule for Developers.
  • SAP certifications (e.g., ABAP for SAP HANA, S/4HANA Developer) are highly advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a quality‑first mindset.
  • Effective written and verbal communication; able to challenge requirements constructively.
  • Comfortable collaborating across multi‑vendor/global teams in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Takes ownership through go‑live and hypercare; steady under production pressure.
