Job Description

Candidates for this position are preferred to be based in Bangalore, India and will be expected to comply with their team's hybrid work schedule requirements.

Who We Are:

Wayfair runs the largest custom e-commerce large parcel network in the United States, approximately 1.6 million square meters of logistics space. The nature of the network is inherently a highly variable ecosystem that requires flexible, reliable, and resilient systems to operate efficiently.

We are looking for a passionate Software Engineer to join our team that manages Wayfair's core messaging infrastructure. Our team is responsible for the health, scalability, and evolution of our centralized Kafka platform, which powers critical, real-time data movement across the entire company.

In this role, you will help evolve the Core data services that power Wayfair's real-time data at scale. You will design and build highly resilient, high-throughput systems, and develop self-service tooling that enables engineering teams across Wayfair to adopt and operate on the platform with confidence. This role has a direct impact on the scalability, reliability, and operational excellence of Wayfair's e-commerce ecosystem.

What You'll Do:

  • Partner with your business stakeholders to provide them with transparency, data, and resources to make informed decisions.
  • Be a technical leader within and across the teams you work with.
  • Drive architectural decisions and hands-on development for high-throughput, real-time messaging systems.
  • Obsessively focus on production readiness for the team including testing, monitoring, deployment, documentation and proactive troubleshooting.
  • Identify risks and gaps in technical approaches and propose solutions to meet team and project goals.
  • Influence and contribute to the team's strategy and roadmap.
  • A tenacity for learning and a strong curiosity for evolving distributed systems and messaging paradigms.

We Are a Match Because You Have:

  • 3-5 years of experience Strong background building and operating data systems using Java (Spring Boot), Python, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) with mature CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Buildkite, Jenkins).
  • Hands-on experience architecting and running distributed systems on cloud-native infrastructure using Docker, Kubernetes and Google Cloud Platform, including stateful services (Redis, Aerospike).
  • Deep observability mindset with practical experience implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting using tools like Datadog, Elasticsearch, InfluxDB, and defining actionable signals.
  • Experience supporting large-scale data platforms, including batch and streaming pipelines, schedulers, and ingestion frameworks; familiarity with Kafka / PubSub, Airflow / Composer, Spark / Dataflow, Trino, BigQuery.
  • Operational ownership of Tier-1 data services, with responsibility for freshness, latency, and completeness SLIs, handling backfills, replays, data incidents, and making cost-efficient design tradeoffs (streaming vs batch, compute vs storage).
