About The Team
We are the Digital Services team within Customer Service Technology under eBay's Global Technology Organization. We own the end-to-end online customer service experience across web and native mobile, helping millions of buyers and sellers get fast, effective help every day.
Our mission is to keep members in-journey and resolve issues through intuitive, compliant self-service experiences, driving high containment and deflection, lower customer effort (CES), and reduced assisted contact. We design and build the experiences that enable customers to quickly find answers, resolve issues through self-service, and get support when needed. Partnering closely with Product, Design, Data, and Platform teams, we deliver intuitive, reliable, and scalable solutions across web and native mobile.
This role will primarily focus on building high-quality native iOS experiences while also contributing to the backend services, APIs, and platform integrations that support the end-to-end customer journey. We work in a modern, diverse tech stack with a strong focus on quality, observability, and collaboration in a highly distributed environment.
This role is ideal for an engineer who is passionate about building high-quality native mobile experiences and is also excited to contribute across the stack. In addition to owning mobile features, this engineer will have opportunities to support backend services, APIs, and adjacent web or platform work as business needs evolve, helping the team move faster across priorities.
What you'll do
- Design and build modular iOS features that integrate with eBay's self-service platforms and backend services.
- Own native iOS development across the feature lifecycle, from technical design through implementation, testing, release, and post-launch support.
- Translate product and design requirements into clean, high-quality, crash-free, well-tested production code with minimal supervision.
- Apply strong software engineering practices including clean code, writing tests first, maintainable architecture, and continuous improvement.
- Implement testing at multiple levels, including unit, integration, UI, and acceptance testing, and build automation for shipped features.
- Refactor existing code to improve testability, reusability, performance, readability, and long-term maintainability.
- Participate in and occasionally lead design discussions, propose implementation options, evaluate tradeoffs, and provide effort estimates.
- Support product developers with debugging Xcode issues, OS upgrades, SDK changes, and adoption of new iOS platform capabilities.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and release processes to ensure smooth, reliable mobile deployments.
- Partner closely with backend and platform engineers to define APIs, improve service integrations, and deliver seamless end-to-end customer experiences.
- Contribute beyond mobile when needed by supporting full stack engineering work such as backend services, APIs, and platform integrations aligned with team priorities.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation that supports the continued evolution and operation of our applications.
What you'll bring
- 5+ years of experience designing, building, refactoring, and releasing native iOS applications in production environments.
- Strong proficiency in Swift and/or Objective-C, with the ability to independently own and deliver features within an iOS application.
- Solid experience with Xcode, modern iOS APIs, Swift Concurrency, and SwiftUI and/or UIKit.
- Strong understanding of mobile application architecture, performance optimization, debugging, and reliability standards.
- Experience implementing automated testing across unit, integration, and UI layers.
- Experience collaborating through code reviews, pairing, and other engineering practices that improve code quality and team resiliency.
- Working knowledge of backend development concepts, APIs, and service integrations.
- Familiarity with Java, Spring Boot, Python, REST, and/or GraphQL, with the ability to contribute outside the mobile stack when needed.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively across mobile, platform, and product teams.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as coding assistants, test generation, and code review aids to improve delivery speed while maintaining high quality.
- A flexible engineering mindset with enthusiasm for contributing where the team needs it most, whether on native mobile or broader full stack initiatives.
