As a Software Development Manager (SDM) for Amazon Music - Makerting & Growth, you would be managing a talented team of engineers building and scaling large scale systems allowing customers to stream and purchase music on Amazon Retail. You are expected to be a leader in technology, diving deep into problems you own, demonstrate excellent judgement skills in decision making, mentoring and growing talent. You inspire people, motivate the team, drive the culture of innovation, implement engineering best practices, and have commitment and grit to deliver results.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of software engineers responsible for building and scaling large-scale distributed systems that power music streaming and purchasing experiences on Amazon Retail
  • Define technical vision and architecture for systems serving millions of customers across Amazon Website, mobile Apps, Kindle, Fire TV, and web clients
  • Drive Operational Excellence by establishing engineering best practices, defining on-call strategies, and ensuring high availability and reliability of services
  • Partner with product management and cross-functional engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical roadmaps and deliverables
  • Mentor, coach, and grow engineering talent through regular 1:1s, career development planning, and performance management
  • Own end-to-end delivery of projects from design through deployment, ensuring quality, scalability, and customer impact
  • Influence organizational strategy by collaborating with senior leadership across Amazon Music to align on goals and priorities
  • Drive a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, encouraging the team to experiment, iterate, and raise the bar for customers
  • Make sound technical and business judgement calls, balancing short-term delivery needs with long-term architectural investments
  • Recruit and hire top engineering talent to build a high-performing, diverse team

Influencing peer SDMs and senior leadership on cross-org priorities

Removing blockers for your team so they can stay in flow

Thinking about how to measure and improve customer engagement, retention, and acquisition through technology

Balancing keep the lights on operational work with innovation and experimentation

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of engineering experience
  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
  • Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
