Job Description

Description

Build the future of financial systems at Amazon scale. Join the SAAB (Settlements Authority and Billing) team in FinTech Receivables, where we're transforming how Amazon processes billions of dollars in settlements, transaction adjustments, and billing operations across global businesses. We're looking for an SDE II who thrives on solving complex distributed systems challenges and wants to make a direct impact on Amazon's financial infrastructure.

As an SDE II on our team, you'll design and build highly scalable systems that power Settlements Authority (SA), Transaction Adjustment Experience (TRAX), and OFA Billing-critical platforms that enable seamless financial operations between accounts receivable and payable subledgers. You'll work with latest AWS technologies, collaborate with finance operations teams across Amazon, and help us modernize legacy systems while maintaining the reliability our business depends on.

You'll write clean, maintainable code, participate in architectural decisions, mentor junior engineers, and take ownership of features from conception through production deployment. This is a hands-on role where you'll contribute to the full software development lifecycle while working with technologies including Java, AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, Kinesis, and modern web frameworks.

Key job responsibilities
As an SDE II on the FinTech SAAB team, you will:

- Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable financial systems that process critical settlement and billing transactions
- Build features for Settlements Authority that enable automated deduct-from-payment (DFP) workflows between AR and AP subledgers
- Contribute to the Transaction Adjustment Experience (TRAX) platform, helping finance operations teams efficiently manage transaction adjustments
- Work on OFA Billing systems and support the migration strategy as we modernize our financial technology stack
- Collaborate with product managers, finance operations teams, and other engineering teams to deliver solutions that meet complex business requirements
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle including design, coding, testing, deployment, and operational support
- Write clean, maintainable code following best practices and contribute to code reviews
- Mentor junior engineers and help maintain high engineering standards across the team
- Participate in on-call rotation to ensure system reliability and quick incident resolution

A day in the life
You'll start your day reviewing metrics and dashboards to ensure our financial systems are running smoothly. You might spend your morning designing a new API to eliminate manual processing for business teams. After collaborating with your team on technical design, you'll write code, run tests, and prepare for deployment.

In the afternoon, you could be troubleshooting a production issue with a teammate, reviewing pull requests, or meeting with finance operations stakeholders to understand their pain points and gather requirements for upcoming features. You'll also mentor junior engineers, helping them navigate complex system interactions and best practices. Throughout the day, you'll balance feature development with operational excellence, always keeping our customers-both internal finance teams and external vendors-at the center of your decisions.

About the team
SAAB team sits within FinTech and is responsible for three critical financial platforms that process settlements, transaction adjustments, and billing for Amazon's global operations. We're a collaborative, customer-obsessed team that values innovation, operational excellence, and continuous learning.

Our team culture emphasizes ownership, technical excellence, and work-life balance. We work in an agile environment with sustainable pacing, and we're committed to building systems that are not just functional but elegant and maintainable. You'll work alongside experienced engineers, product managers, and technical program managers who are passionate about solving hard problems and delivering value to our customers.

We're currently modernizing our technology stack, migrating from legacy systems to cloud-native architectures, which means you'll have opportunities to work on greenfield projects while learning from established systems. Whether you're interested in distributed systems, financial technology, or building tools that empower thousands of users, the SAAB team offers exciting challenges and growth opportunities.
