This role involves contributing to the design, development, and enhancement of API authorization services on AWS, supporting a centralized authorization framework. As part of the engineering team, you will collaborate with senior developers to build secure, scalable, and reliable solutions, while applying best practices in API security and cloud-native development. You will participate in implementing authentication and authorization patterns, integrating services, and ensuring consistent security controls across applications.
The position also offers opportunities to grow in areas such as security architecture and DevSecOps practices while working in an agile environment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, support operational needs, and continuously improve system reliability and performance. The ideal candidate has solid hands-on backend development experience, a foundational understanding of AWS and API security concepts, and a strong willingness to learn and evolve into more advanced engineering responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain cloud-native authorization services in AWS, writing clean, efficient, secure, and well-documented code.
- Contribute to building scalable authentication and authorization solutions for APIs in collaboration with senior engineers and architects.
- Follow and apply established best practices for API security and application security across development tasks.
- Support the development and enhancement of centralized API Authorizer services and related components.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (application, infrastructure, identity, and operations) to deliver secure and reliable solutions.
- Assist in maintaining and improving system reliability, performance, and operational stability of authorization services.
- Help implement and adhere to security standards, access controls, and development guidelines.
- Create and update technical documentation, including configurations, workflows, and troubleshooting steps.
- Participate in integration efforts for authentication and authorization across applications and services.
- Contribute to solution implementations, feature enhancements, and bug fixes under guidance from senior team members.
- Actively participate in code reviews to ensure quality, consistency, and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Collaborate with teams in EST timezone for one week each month, ensuring smooth coordination and support across geographies.
What You Need To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
- 2-4 years of experience in software development with exposure to DevOps/DevSecOps practices and build-to-manage environments.
- Good understanding of APIs and microservices architecture, including basic design patterns, deployment, and lifecycle management.
- Familiarity with frontend development using frameworks such as Angular or ReactJS.
- Basic knowledge of identity federation and authorization protocols, including OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect (OIDC).
- Hands-on experience or working knowledge of AWS cloud services and concepts, along with exposure to:
- Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, or similar)
- CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI, AWS CodePipeline, or similar)
- Cloud provisioning tools such as AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or SAM
- Exposure to authorization concepts and tools such as Policy Decision Points (PDP), Open Policy Agent (OPA), or similar frameworks (nice to have).
- Programming experience in TypeScript (preferred), Java, or Python, with the ability to develop and debug backend services.
- Familiarity with automated testing practices and secure coding fundamentals.
- Understanding of DevOps principles and application lifecycle management.
- Proficiency in using source control systems like GitHub or GitLab.
- Experience working in Agile or Scrum-based development environments.
- Awareness of 12-factor application principles and cloud-native development practices.
- Basic understanding of IAM (Identity and Access Management) concepts for authentication and authorization.
- Good problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate options and contribute to technical decisions with guidance.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
