Software Development Engineer

We are responsible for the tax platform, providing core services that calculate taxes (sales tax and VAT) for all Amazon sales, physical and digital, globally. Our services generate tax invoices, ensuring the correct tax amounts are applied to the customer at order time. We also ensure that audit records are safely stored to meet global tax law requirements, all while generating tax-compliant invoices. Our challenges include keeping up with complex and ever-changing global tax rates and laws, making precise tax calculations at high speedthousands of times per secondand ensuring each one is accurate.

Our systems manage hundreds of millions of records, responding to millions of service requests per minute. The successful candidate will contribute to all parts of the software development and deployment lifecycle, including design, development, documentation, testing, and operations. The role requires strong verbal and written communication skills, a self-driven work ethic, and the ability to deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will enjoy working closely with a team of highly talented engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the team to drive business decisions.
• Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain innovative software solutions to optimize services, cost, and security.
• Use software engineering best practices to maintain high standards of quality across deliverables.
• Write high-quality distributed system software.
• Work in an agile, startup-like development environment, focusing on high-priority tasks.

Basic Qualifications:

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of experience in designing or architecting new and existing systems (design patterns, reliability, and scaling).
• 3+ years of experience in the Video Games Industry (supporting title development, release, or live ops).
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
