Job Description

System Engineer IIposition within IES Compute Ops Team is responsible for managing our Linux, Virtual (VMWare & OLVM) and some part of Windows infrastructure in Oracle Datacenters and on OCI.
This position requires a thorough knowledge of UNIX Support, Linux operating systems, Ability to work in shifts, including off-business hours and weekends to provide on-call support.
Knowledge of HPE hardware, understanding of high availability system design concepts and configuration best practices, Ability to manage multiple project tasks simultaneously. This includes the ability to operate in a multi-platform, multi-operating system, multi-component environment utilizing many servers builds and configurations in a multi-client environment.
Fair knowledge of storage systems and various SAN management solutions will be a plus. The primary use for this knowledge is to implement and manage SAN hardware and software serving storage to a heterogeneous environment consisting of Windows, Linux, and various UNIX operating systems.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Fulfilling service requests for Infrastructure Services using ITIL Framework (Incident Management, Change Management and Problem Management)
  • Maintain and troubleshoot systems running flavors of Unix/Linux.
  • Address production issues related to VMs w.r.t. Operating system, Disk expansion, adding CPU, increasing VM Memory etc.
  • Knowledge of Storage provisioning and reclaims.
  • Multi-pathing software, such as HP Auto-Path, MPIO, Securepath
  • Performance tuning and system optimization.
  • VMware Infrastructure (ESXi Servers, vCenter, VMotion, DRS, HA)
  • Knowledge on OLVM will be a plus.
  • Technical understanding of SAN/Storage, Network
  • Optimizing System Performance using perf counters (Event Viewer and Network Monitor)
  • iLO & Onboard Administrator, iDRAC
  • Sound server class hardware knowledge, preferably HPE ProLiant BL and DL Series
  • Hands on Experience on ITSM tools like BMC Remedy and JIRA
  • Basic Understanding of scripting tools.
  • Cross functioning with other support groups (Network, Storage, Hardware teams)
  • ITIL - Incident, Problem & Change Management
  • Vendor Interaction for Support and consulting
  • Work on Incident Tickets and Service Requests using Remedy Tool
  • Provide rotational on-call support (Weekdays & Weekends)
  • Analytical and Troubleshooting skills - Excellent
  • Written and Verbal English Communication Skills - Excellent
