Job Overview
We are seeking a talented and experienced Software Development Engineer II to join Amazon's Global Transportation Tech Services (GTTS) team. This role will focus on building and scaling platforms that manage the core of Amazon's global outbound transportation network. The successful candidate will contribute to strategic planning, project execution, and the development of engineering talent while driving operational excellence to achieve a world-class transportation network.
Key Deliverables
- Develop, test, and deploy high-quality, scalable software solutions that optimize Amazon's transportation network.
- Contribute to the design and architecture of new and existing systems, ensuring reliability and scalability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address capacity constraints, disruptions, and inefficiencies in the network.
- Drive strategic planning initiatives, aligning technology solutions with business objectives.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and operational support, maintaining a high standard of software quality.
- Optimize existing systems for improved performance and efficiency, influencing key performance indicators within the network.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- 2+ years of non-internship experience in design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling).
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Java, Python, C++).
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS services and cloud-based technologies.
- Experience with big data processing technologies such as Spark/Scala.
- Familiarity with optimization algorithms and machine learning models.
- Experience with full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Experience developing and deploying large-scale distributed systems.
Skills
Must-Have Skills
- Technical: Proficiency in Java, Python, or C++; experience with AWS services (S3, EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB).
- Domain Knowledge: Understanding of supply chain management, transportation logistics, and network design principles.
- Behavioral & Interpersonal: Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills; ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Process & SOP: Experience with agile development methodologies, code review processes, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving: Ability to analyze complex systems, identify bottlenecks, and develop scalable solutions.
Good-to-Have Skills
- Advanced Technical: Experience with advanced data analytics, machine learning algorithms, and optimization techniques.
- Additional Certifications: AWS Certified Developer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or similar certifications.
- Cross-Functional Exposure: Experience working with transportation operations teams, product management, and other stakeholders.
- Leadership Traits: Mentoring junior engineers, leading technical projects, and driving innovation within the team.
- Continuous Improvement: Familiarity with Lean/Kaizen principles and experience in driving process improvements.

- You will report to a Senior Engineering Manager within the GTTS organization, and will work collaboratively with other engineers, product managers, and stakeholders across the company.
