Role Overview: Junior GIS Analyst

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career GIS professional who is eager to apply their skills to real-world urban development challenges. As a junior GIS analyst at SA, you will work with spatial data, help create maps, support field surveys, and contribute to projects that directly improve living conditions for vulnerable communities.

You will receive guidance from senior team members while gradually taking on more independent responsibilities.

Who We're Looking For

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geography, Geo-Informatics, Surveying Engineering, Forestry, Earth Science, OR
  • Any graduation with a GIS Diploma

Experience & Skills:

  • Around 1 year of hands-on experience with GIS software (ArcGIS/QGIS) is preferred but freshers will also be considered
  • Basic understanding of GPS, mapping, and data collection tools
  • Curious, detail-oriented, and eager to learn
  • Comfortable travelling locally for fieldwork and surveys
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills

Key Responsibilities

1. GIS Mapping & Data Work

  • Help integrate survey data (RIM and Socio-Economic Surveys) into GIS platforms
  • Assist with digitising slum boundaries and creating clean map layers
  • Generate simple spatial analyses to support project planning
  • Prepare KML files and update mapping layers on Google Earth and internal platforms

2. Field Support & Data Collection

  • Participate in Rapid Infrastructure Mapping (RIM) and on-field mapping surveys
  • Verify data accuracy through on-ground checks
  • Work with field teams to ensure high-quality data collection

3. Quality Checks & Coordination

  • Support city-, ward-, and zone-level analysis under guidance
  • Double-check GIS outputs created by team members
