Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Cards Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our Banking & Financial Services QA Practice. In this strategic role, you will be the primary domain authority for Cards products including Credit Cards, Debit Cards, Prepaid Cards, and Acquiring across end-to-end quality assurance engagements. You will bridge the gap between business requirements and technology delivery, ensuring that complex cards processing ecosystems are thoroughly validated and compliant with global standards.

Key Responsibilities

Domain Leadership & Strategy

  • Serve as the primary Banking Cards domain expert across QA engagements, presales, and client discussions.
  • Define testing strategies and frameworks for Cards products including Issuing, Acquiring, Prepaid, Co-brand, and Loyalty.
  • Lead requirement analysis sessions with business stakeholders and translate them into comprehensive test scenarios.
  • Guide and mentor QA teams on Cards domain concepts, payment flows, and regulatory requirements.

Test Planning & Delivery

  • Own end-to-end test planning, effort estimation, and quality assurance for Cards transformation programs.
  • Design and review test cases for complex scenarios: authorization, clearing & settlement, dispute management, chargebacks, and fraud rules.
  • Oversee functional, integration, regression, and UAT phases across Cards platforms (e.g., FIS, Fiserv, TSYS, Temenos, Finacle).
  • Drive defect triage, root cause analysis, and escalation management for high-severity Cards issues.

Cards Systems & Technology

  • Validate end-to-end transaction flows across card lifecycle: application, issuance, activation, authorization, clearing, settlement, and closure.
  • Lead testing on digital cards, tokenization (EMVCo, Apple Pay, Google Pay), and contactless payment flows.
  • Test integrations with payment networks (Visa, Mastercard, RuPay, Amex) and third-party processors.
  • Review and validate system configurations including BIN management, interchange, product parameters, and authorization rules.

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Ensure testing coverage for regulatory requirements: RBI guidelines, PCI-DSS, EMV standards, and card scheme mandates.
  • Validate compliance controls for AML, KYC, fraud monitoring, and data privacy (GDPR / PDPA).
  • Stay current with evolving payments regulations and card scheme bulletins; proactively update testing frameworks accordingly.

Stakeholder & Client Engagement

  • Engage directly with client stakeholders business, technology, and compliance teams to understand requirements and communicate testing progress.
  • Contribute to RFP responses, solution design, and delivery estimation during presales cycles.
  • Present testing outcomes, defect reports, and risk assessments to senior leadership and client executives.
  • Act as a thought leader by contributing to white papers, case studies, and internal knowledge repositories.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Domain Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in the banking / financial services domain with at least 10 years dedicated to Cards products.
  • Deep expertise in Credit Cards, Debit Cards, Prepaid Cards, Corporate Cards, and Card Acquiring ecosystems.
  • Hands-on experience working with Cards processing platforms such as FIS CardPro, Fiserv Optis, TSYS, OpenWay WAY4, or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of card scheme rules: Visa, Mastercard, RuPay, and American Express operating regulations.
  • Thorough understanding of the end-to-end transaction lifecycle including ISO 8583 message standards.

QA & Testing Expertise

  • Proven track record of leading large-scale QA programs for Cards transformation, migration, and implementation projects.
  • Experience in defining and executing functional, system integration, performance, and UAT test strategies.
  • Proficiency in test management tools: JIRA, ALM/Quality Center, Azure DevOps, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools (Selenium, Tosca, or domain-specific tools).
  • Familiarity with API testing for payment services using tools such as Postman or SoapUI.

Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Ability to read and analyze core banking / cards system configurations and parameter setups.
  • SQL proficiency for data validation and reconciliation of transaction data across systems.
  • Familiarity with HSM, key management concepts, and cryptographic processes related to card security.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • ISTQB Certified Tester (Foundation or Advanced Level)
  • Certified Payments Professional (CPP) or equivalent payments certification
  • PCI-DSS Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) awareness formal certification is a plus
  • Visa / Mastercard certified testing or scheme-specific certifications
