Key Responsibilities
Hands-on experience operating Kafka in production environments. Experience managing brokers, partitions, replication, consumer groups, and handling incidents such as rebalancing issues and consumer lag. Strong understanding of availability, durability, and throughput tradeoffs in real-world Kafka deployments.
Cassandra
Experience operating Apache Cassandra (or compatible systems) in production. Ability to manage cluster sizing, replication strategies, node lifecycle, repairs, and backups. Proven experience troubleshooting latency, consistency, and availability issues during live incidents.
Relational Databases
Hands-on experience operating relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL in production. Experience with backups, replication, failover, and performance troubleshooting including slow queries and locking issues. Understanding of how application connection pooling and transactions impact database reliability.
Java Services (Spring Boot)
Experience operating Java-based services in production, preferably built with Spring Boot. Strong understanding of JVM runtime behavior including memory, garbage collection, and threading. Proven ability to troubleshoot performance, stability, and availability issues in live Java services.
SRE & On-Call
Experience participating in on-call rotations for production systems. Strong incident response skills including triage, mitigation, and postmortems. Ability to improve system reliability through monitoring, alerting, and automation.
Nice-to-Have Skills
Kubernetes
Experience operating workloads in Kubernetes beyond basic deployments. Understanding of pod lifecycle, resource limits, rolling deployments, and common failure scenarios. Ability to troubleshoot production issues related to scheduling, networking, and resource contention.
Infrastructure as Code
Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or similar. Ability to manage infrastructure changes safely through version control and automation. Understanding of how IaC supports reproducibility, scalability, and reliability.
JVM Performance Tuning
Experience tuning JVM-based systems for performance and stability. Familiarity with GC logs, heap and thread dumps, and common memory or latency issues. Ability to diagnose and resolve JVM-related performance problems in production environments.
Large-Scale Systems
Experience operating high-throughput, distributed systems at scale. Understanding of capacity planning, saturation limits, and failure modes in complex environments. Ability to make tradeoffs between performance, reliability, and operational complexity.
Observability & SLOs
Experience defining and operating metrics, logs, and traces for production systems. Familiarity with SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets. Ability to use observability data to drive proactive reliability improvements.
