The Site Quality Leader is responsible for driving quality excellence at our new India Engine Business manufacturing facility in Phaltan. This role manages plant-level quality operations, ensures compliance with global standards, and supports key initiatives aligned with Cummins Operating System (COS). The leader fosters a culture of continuous improvement, builds and develops a high-performing quality team, and champions customer satisfaction through robust quality planning, problem-solving, and digital transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the development, implementation, and maintenance of the plant quality system.
- Establish and maintain quality assurance methods, expectations, and processes for the site.
- Align quality objectives with plant operational goals and the Cummins Operating System.
- Drive execution of the site s Annual Operating Plan in alignment with quality goals.
- Ensure product quality and enforce work stoppage protocols when defects affecting the product are identified.
- Prioritize and organize site-level quality projects; manage resources effectively.
- Monitor and guide continuous improvement efforts (e. g. , RFT, Cost of Poor Quality, Product Quality Council).
- Conduct quality audits and assessments; lead post-event reviews to capture learnings.
- Oversee compliance with APQP, PPAP, IATF, and customer-specific quality standards.
- Manage Value Package Introduction (VPI) quality planning activities.
- Utilize Lean Manufacturing, 7-step problem solving, and Intelligent Quality Tools and Methods (IQTM).
- Lead Six Sigma initiatives and track certification progress.
- Manage and develop the Quality Engineers, Calibration, and Metrology team.
- Leverage advanced technologies and Quality 4. 0 tools to enhance product and process quality.
- Identify and drive greenhouse emission reduction opportunities in product and process.
- Act as a change agent and strategic partner to align quality with evolving business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering or a related technical or scientific field is required.
- Demonstrated capability in managing quality functions in a manufacturing environment.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export control or sanctions regulations.
Skills and Experience
Experience:
- 5-7 years of relevant experience in Manufacturing, Engineering, or Program Management within automotive or similarly regulated industries.
- Minimum 3 years of managerial experience is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with engine critical components (Cylinder Block, Cylinder Heads, Camshaft, etc. ) and castings.
- Strong machining knowledge and supplier development capabilities.
Technical Competencies:
- Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), PPAP, FMEA, SPC, and Process Audits
- Cummins Operating System (COS) and Total Quality Management (TQM) practices
- Strong command of statistical tools, problem-solving methodologies, and Lean principles
- Quality Systems Management and compliance with IATF standards
