Job Description

The opportunity

Electrical Engineering research, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes. An Experienced Professional (P2) applies practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. May require the following proficiency: Works independently with general supervision. Problems faced are difficult but typically not complex. May influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies and practices.

How you'll make an impact

  • The core of the role involves performing complex simulations to predict how a bushing will behave under extreme stress.

  • Mapping electric field distributions to prevent corona discharge and insulation breakdown. This includes calculating the E_max (maximum electric field) at shield ends and condenser layers.

  • Simulating skin effect and ohmic heating in the conductor to ensure the bushing operates within thermal limits (IEC/IEEE standards).

  • Evaluating the structural integrity of porcelain or composite insulators against cantilever loads, wind pressure, and seismic vibrations.

  • Designing the optimal radial and axial distribution of capacitive layers (fine-tuning the length and diameter of aluminium foils) to achieve a uniform electric field.

  • Simulating the performance of different insulation media, such as Oil-Impregnated Paper (OIP), Resin-Impregnated Paper (RIP), or Resin-Impregnated Synthetics (RIS).

  • Type Test Simulation: Virtually replicating BIL (Basic Insulation Level) lightning impulses and power-frequency withstand tests.

  • Root Cause Analysis: Using simulation to investigate failures during real-world testing or field operations to identify design flaws.

  • You will be ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Living Hitachi Energy's core values of safety and integrity, taking responsibility for your actions while caring for colleagues and the business.

Your background

  • Degree / master's in electrical engineering with 4-8 years of experience.

  • experience in Electrical or Thermal Design Simulation.

  • IEC Standards / preferred IEC-60137 Standards.

  • Strong knowledge and working experience of electrical, thermal and CFD simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics

  • Knowledge of COMSOL Multiphysics, platform products, add-on interfaces, and software programming

  • Knowledge of Multiphysics simulations involving thermal analysis, CFD, and Fluid-Structure Interaction

  • Knowledge of software programming tools and languages such as MATLAB, Mathcad, Python, Java, etc

  • Knowledge of thermal properties, heat transfer coefficient, volumetric loss, and insulation materials

  • Knowledge of transformer bushings and testing of temperature rise, thermal stability is highly desired

  • Knowledge of high voltage products, global standards, OEM regulations, and industrial practices

  • Proficiency in both spoken and written English language is required.
