Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced ServiceNow CMDB Architect to lead the design, implementation, governance, and optimization of the ServiceNow Configuration Management Database (CMDB) ecosystem. The ideal candidate should have extensive expertise in ServiceNow ITOM modules including Discovery, Service Mapping, Event Management, CMDB Health, CSDM, and cloud discovery across AWS, Azure, and GCP environments. The role will be responsible for defining CMDB strategy, data governance, discovery architecture, andensuring accurate configuration item (CI) relationships across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

CMDB Architecture & Governance

Design and maintain enterprise CMDB architecture aligned with ServiceNow best practices and CSDM framework.

Define CMDB governance processes, standards, and data quality controls.

Establish CI lifecycle management, ownership models, and data stewardship processes.

Drive CMDB health improvement initiatives including Completeness, Correctness, Compliance, and Relationship Health.

Configure and maintain Identification & Reconciliation Engine (IRE) rules, Data Manager policies, and Archive Rules.

Discovery & Service Mapping

Architect and implement ServiceNow Discovery solutions for:

Windows Servers

Linux/Unix Servers

Network Devices

Storage Systems

Virtual Infrastructure (VMware/ESXi)

Cloud Infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP)

Kubernetes Environments

Design MID Server architecture, clustering, scalability, and performance optimization.

Develop custom patterns, probes, sensors, and SNMP classifiers.

Troubleshoot discovery failures, credential issues, classification gaps, and CI duplication challenges.

Lead implementation of business and technical service maps for critical enterprise applications. 

CMDB Data Quality & Integration

Define automated data ingestion and reconciliation strategies.

Manage integrations with third-party monitoring and asset management tools.

Configure Service Graph Connectors and transform maps.

Resolve CI relationship issues, duplicate records, and reconciliation conflicts.

Create dashboards, reports, and KPIs to measure CMDB effectiveness and adoption. 

ITOM & Event Management

Support Event Management implementations and integrations with monitoring platforms.

Develop Event Rules, Alert Rules, CI Binding, Correlation, Suppression, and Deduplication strategies.

Enable automated incident generation and root cause analysis using CMDB relationships.

Ensure alignment between monitoring, discovery, and CMDB ecosystems. 

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

Conduct requirement gathering and solution workshops with infrastructure, application, and business teams.

Create HLDs, LLDs, SOPs, architecture documents, and implementation guides.

Provide technical leadership to CMDB administrators, Discovery engineers, and platform teams.

Mentor junior team members and support customer-facing architecture discussions.

MID Server AdministrationThe Servicenow CMDB Architect contract role is a remote position responsible for designing and maintaining the ServiceNow CMDB architecture to support reliable IT service management and operations. The architect will define CMDB data models, relationships, and standards, and ensure data quality and consistency across configuration items and integrations. Day-to-day activities include collaborating with stakeholders to gather requirements, translating business needs into technical CMDB designs, overseeing CMDB-related implementations, and optimizing discovery and integration processes. The role also involves working closely with development and operations teams to troubleshoot CMDB issues, improve performance, and align the configuration management strategy with broader enterprise architecture and governance. The architect will contribute to documentation, best practices, and continuous improvement of CMDB processes to support scalable, AI-ready technology environments.

Qualifications

• Strong background in CMDB Architecture and Architectural Design, with experience defining data models, CI relationships, and configuration management standards.
• Hands-on experience in ServiceNow-centric Software Development and customization, including scripting, workflows, and integrations within the ServiceNow platform.
• Expertise in Integration, including discovery tools, APIs, and data synchronization between ServiceNow CMDB and external systems, ensuring high data quality and reliability.
• Demonstrated Project Management capabilities to lead CMDB initiatives, coordinate cross-functional teams, manage timelines, and deliver outcomes aligned with business objectives.
• Proficiency with ITIL processes, especially configuration management and change management, and familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks.
• Experience in large-scale, cloud-based environments and understanding of infrastructure components such as servers, networks, applications, and microservices.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
