Job Description

The Service Specialist – Commercial Items is responsible for establishing and owning global standards, governance, and accountability for engineering and commercial item master data across ERP, PLM, and CAD environments. The role ensures end-to-end item master data creation, governance, quality assurance, and lifecycle management to maintain data integrity, regulatory compliance, and digital continuity across regions.

The position works closely with Engineering, Product Development, Supply Chain, Operations, and IT teams to uphold high-quality engineering item data standards and to support global system rollouts, migrations, and integrations, enabling efficient and scalable engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing operations worldwide.

Areas of responsibility

  • Provide strategic ownership and governance for the creation, maintenance, and full lifecycle management of engineering and commercial items across ERP and PLM ecosystems, including Infor LN / Baan, SAP, PDM, and comparable platforms.
  • Act as the process owner for Commercial Item Management, defining standards, controls, and quality gates for raw materials, fasteners, piping components, assemblies, and standards-based item families.
  • Establish and govern engineering classification and compliance frameworks, covering Customs Codes, SAC Codes, and internal engineering taxonomies to ensure regulatory adherence and data integrity.
  • Lead the review, approval, and exception management of item creation and change requests from Engineering, Supply Chain, and Operations, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and audit readiness.
  • Drive Cadmatic enrichment strategy, including metadata governance, digital completeness standards, and structured linking of engineering items to 2D/3D CAD models.
  • Provide functional leadership and best-practice guidance across CAD/PLM environments, including Cadmatic, SolidWorks, CATIA, 3DEXPERIENCE, and standardized 3D model libraries.
  • Oversee the creation and governance of enriched engineering content, such as GDI signs, FDR (Foundry) items, RCM (Roll Cover Materials), and other complex or specialized product structures.
  • Define, maintain, and continuously improve SOPs, work instructions, and control documents, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards, compliance requirements, and continuous improvement objectives.
  • Mentor and guide engineering data and master data teams, acting as a subject-matter authority and escalation point for complex item and data-quality issues.

Basic Requirements Of The Position

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Mechanical, Production, Industrial, or related engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience with mechanical components, industrial design principles, and 3D standards.
  • Experience with 3D design tools (CATIA / SolidWorks).
  • Expertise in PLM, PDM, ERP, CRM, item lifecycle, BOM structures & metadata alignment
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings, 3D models, and manufacturing processes.
  • Background in engineering-centric industries—Energy, Pulp & Paper, Valves, Industrial Machinery, etc.
  • Ability to manage complex, multi-system engineering environments.
  • Good to have strong SQL, Python, shell scripting exposure.
  • Experience with customs codes, translations, and standardization frameworks.
