Job Description
- Job Title: SEO Specialist – Editorial
- Location: Hyderabad
- Employment: Full-time
- Works with: SEO Lead, Editors, Writers, Web Developer
- Experience: 2–3 years in SEO (News, media, or high-volume content background is highly preferred)
Role Overview
We are looking for an SEO Specialist who treats search engine optimization as an editorial craft rather than a mechanical checklist. In this role, you will be responsible for executing day-to-day content optimization, trend monitoring, and technical reporting to drive our organic growth.
This is not a keyword-stuffing role. We want a mid-level professional whose English is flawless, who understands the nuances of a high-quality news headline, and who knows that the best-ranking page is always the best-written one. You will work closely with our writers and editors to ensure our journalism matches search intent without ever compromising on quality.
Language & Editorial Standards We Expect
- Impeccable Grammar: Error-free copy alignment, punctuation, and usage that holds up to a rigorous copy desk.
- Anchor-Quality Tone: A clear, neutral, and authoritative writing voice.
- Compelling & Truthful: Crafting headlines, meta titles, and descriptions that drive clicks without resorting to clickbait.
- Style Guide Discipline: Sharp adherence to our house style guide across all optimizations.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial SEO & Content Optimization
- On-Page Execution: Review and optimize SEO headlines, meta descriptions, alt text, internal links, and URLs to publication-ready standards before content goes live.
- Content Auditing & Refreshing: Regularly review, update, and consolidate evergreen content to keep it accurate, competitive, and aligned with Google's E-E-A-T and helpful-content guidelines.
- Writer Briefing: Assist the editorial team by providing keyword intent analysis, structural outlines, and competitive angles before content creation begins.
News and Discover Monitoring
- Trend Tracking: Actively monitor Google Trends and real-time search data to flag breaking or rising topics early for the news desk.
- Real-Time Optimization: Ensure newly published news articles are swiftly optimized and formatted to rank effectively in Google News, Top Stories, and Discover feeds.
Technical SEO & Reporting
- Site Hygiene: Assist the web developer and SEO Lead in auditing site health, fixing broken links, resolving crawl errors, and checking schema markup (Article, Breadcrumb, FAQ).
- Performance Tracking: Pull weekly data on impressions, keyword rankings, CTR, and traffic patterns using Google Search Console and GA4, translating data into clear summary updates.
Authority & Link Management
- Earned Link Support: Support Digital PR initiatives by tracking brand mentions, identifying link-reclamation opportunities, and assisting with data gathering for linkable assets.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Mass Communication, Marketing, or a related field.
- Experience: 2–3 years of hands-on SEO experience, ideally within a digital newspaper, digital magazine, media agency, or content-heavy brand catalog.
- Exceptional English: Superb written and spoken English skills, with strong editing instincts.
- Tool Proficiency: Solid working experience with Google Search Console, Google Analytics (GA4), and industry tools like Ahrefs, Semrush, or Screaming Frog.
- CMS Knowledge: Hands-on familiarity with WordPress or similar content management systems, alongside a basic understanding of HTML and schema layouts.
- Deadlines: Ability to stay organized and deliver clean work under fast-paced newsroom deadlines.
Preferred Skills
- Previous experience as a copy editor, sub-editor, or content writer.
- General familiarity with topics like the global Indian diaspora, studying abroad, international careers, or global mobility.
- A basic understanding of Core Web Vitals and international/multilingual SEO constraints.
