Senior Yugabyte Specialist

About the Role

We are looking for an ambitious, experienced, and solution-oriented Senior Yugabyte Specialist with deep expertise in YugabyteDB. You will be an integral part of the product and platform development team, collaborating across multiple teams to deliver high-quality, highly scalable products that serve a large, distributed user base.

Key Responsibilities

• 6 – 10 years of experience in backend engineering, with a strong track record in medium to large-scale server-side software development.

• Hands-on experience with databases, distributed systems, and microservices architecture.

• Proficiency in a backend programming language – Java or Clojure – in a production environment.

• Working knowledge of YugabyteDB, including operating it at scale in a distributed setup.

• Design and develop product features delivered at massive scale, supporting high request volumes with strong performance and reliability.

• Take complete ownership of business-driven data management within the primary live YugabyteDB environment.

• Identify gaps and optimize database usage across the product.

• Partner with Infrastructure teams to maintain database clusters and to stabilize and scale database infrastructure across the organization.

• Occasionally lead cross-team projects, collaborating with developers, QA, and other departments.

• Review peers code and system design; uphold best practices across the team.

• Contribute to hiring and onboarding processes.

Requirements

• 6+ years of medium to large-scale server-side software development experience.

• Experience working with databases, specifically YugabyteDB, at scale in a distributed setup.

• Strong working knowledge of a backend programming language such as Clojure or Java in production.

• In-depth knowledge of computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithmic time complexity.

• Experience designing and architecting complex, scalable systems.

• Experience benchmarking systems for performance and failure detection.

• Knowledge of POSIX-compliant operating systems (development on macOS, deployment on GNU/Linux).

• Comfortable using CLI tools for day-to-day tasks.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to issue resolution.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Experience coaching and mentoring peers.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

Nice to Have

• Strong knowledge of functional programming, particularly Clojure.

• Exposure to project management and related tools.
