Senior Web Developer – WordPress & Shopify eCommerce Specialist

Position Senior Web Developer – eCommerce / Shopify & WordPress

Engagement Type Project-Based Contract / Full Time

1. Position Summary

MinoriLabs is seeking a highly skilled, self-directed Senior Web Developer with deep expertise in Shopify eCommerce development and WordPress to lead a full-scope website migration and storefront build for one of our key clients.

The selected developer will convert an existing WordPress site into a fully functional, launch-ready Shopify eCommerce storefront. This is a high-visibility project requiring someone who can work with minimal oversight, deliver professional-grade output, and ensure the final site is technically sound, visually engaging, and optimized for conversions.

The right candidate brings strong end-to-end ownership — from technical architecture and development through testing and launch — and communicates proactively with stakeholders throughout.

2. Project Scope & Key Deliverables

This role is centered on the following project objectives:

2.1 WordPress-to-Shopify Migration

• Migrate all existing site content from WordPress to Shopify, preserving design intent and content integrity.

• Maintain URL structures, redirects, and SEO signals throughout migration.

• Reuse existing site content as-is (Phase I scope); no content rewrites required.

2.2 eCommerce Build-Out

• Configure a fully functional Shopify storefront with product listings, PDPs (Product Detail Pages), and collections.

• Integrate base MSRP equipment pricing sourced from a sister website owned by the client.

• Configure shipping settings and rates mirroring the client's existing website.

• Implement payment system options consistent with the client's existing setup, including:

◦ Bills & Coins Only

◦ Credit Card Reader AND Bills & Coins

2.3 Site Nomenclature & Standardization

• Apply site nomenclature communalization per client direction and brand guidelines.

• Ensure consistent terminology, labeling, and navigation conventions across all pages.

2.4 Real-Time Channel Partner Pricing Display

• Develop or integrate a solution to scrape and display real-time pricing from the client's channel partner pages on relevant PDPs, including:

◦ Sam's Club

◦ BJ's Wholesale Club

◦ Quill

◦ Webstaurant Store

◦ Additional channel partners as agreed

• This feature requires careful architecture planning; the developer will propose a technically sound, compliant, and maintainable approach in collaboration with the client.

2.5 UX, Performance & Conversion Optimization

• Deliver a visually engaging, responsive storefront providing an exceptional user experience across desktop and mobile.

• Ensure the site is technically sound: fast-loading, accessible, and cross-browser compatible.

• Optimize layout and page flow to drive site conversions.

3. Roles & Responsibilities

3.1 Discovery & Architecture

• Review the existing WordPress site structure, content, and functionality.

• Propose a clear technical migration and build approach, including the channel partner pricing integration strategy.

• Define and align on scope, milestones, and delivery timeline with the client.

3.2 Design & Front-End Development

• Build or customize a Shopify theme to match intended visual design and brand standards.

• Develop responsive layouts using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and Liquid (Shopify's templating language).

• Ensure accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA minimum) and cross-browser compatibility.

3.3 Back-End & Integration Development

• Integrate Shopify with required back-end systems, third-party tools, and APIs.

• Implement pricing sync from the sister website and the channel partner real-time scraping solution.

• Configure payment gateways, shipping rules, and tax settings per client specifications.

• Integrate necessary Shopify apps or custom development as required.

3.4 WordPress Maintenance (Transition Period)

• Maintain and support the existing WordPress site during the transition to keep it operational until Shopify go-live.

• Extract and migrate content accurately from WordPress to the new Shopify environment.

3.5 Testing & QA

• Conduct comprehensive testing across features, functionality, user flows, payment processing, and security.

• Perform cross-device and cross-browser QA (desktop, tablet, mobile).

• Run performance testing and optimization (Core Web Vitals, page speed).

• Resolve all identified bugs and issues prior to launch.

3.6 Launch & Handover

• Coordinate domain migration, DNS, SSL, and go-live activities.

• Deliver a fully launch-ready site requiring minimal rework from the client team.

• Provide documentation covering architecture, integrations, and maintenance guidelines.

• Offer a defined post-launch support window for issue resolution.

4. Job Specification – Required Qualifications

4.1 Experience

• 8–12+ years of professional web development experience, preferably in an agency or product company setting.

• 5+ years of hands-on Shopify development including theme customization, Liquid templating, and Shopify APIs.

• 5+ years of WordPress development including custom themes, plugins, and WooCommerce.

• Proven track record of end-to-end eCommerce project delivery — from scoping through launch.

• Experience working independently with senior stakeholders under limited day-to-day oversight.

4.2 Technical Skills – Must-Have

• Shopify: Theme development (Liquid, Sections, Blocks), Shopify CLI, Storefront API, Admin API

• WordPress: Theme & plugin development, WooCommerce, REST API, custom post types

• Front-End: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), jQuery, Bootstrap / Tailwind CSS

• Back-End: PHP, MySQL

• APIs & Integrations: REST APIs, webhooks, third-party app integration

• Performance Optimization: Core Web Vitals, lazy loading, image optimization, CDN configuration

• SEO: On-page optimization, structured data, URL management, redirect handling during migration

• Security: SSL/TLS, HTTPS, input validation, platform security best practices

• Version Control: Git (GitHub / GitLab / Bitbucket)

• Hosting & Infrastructure: Domain management, DNS, server/hosting environment configuration

4.3 Technical Skills – Nice-to-Have

• Web scraping technologies (Python, Puppeteer, Playwright, or similar) for channel partner pricing integration

• Shopify Plus experience (Scripts, Flow, B2B, checkout customization)

• Experience with Magento, WooCommerce, or other eCommerce platforms

• Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, and conversion tracking setup

• Headless commerce concepts or Shopify Hydrogen experience

4.4 Soft Skills & Work Style

5. Future Scope – Phase II (Anticipated)

While not part of the current engagement, the following are anticipated in a subsequent phase. The selected developer will be given preferential consideration for continuity:

• Product catalog expansion with new SKUs, categories, and collections

• Content enhancements: copy updates, imagery refresh, and multimedia additions

• Additional channel integrations and marketplace connectivity

• Advanced analytics and conversion rate optimization (CRO) initiatives

• Potential internationalization and multi-currency support

6. Success Criteria

The engagement will be considered successful when the following outcomes are met:

• A fully functional Shopify storefront is live, replacing the existing WordPress site

• All existing content has been migrated and displays correctly on the new platform

• MSRP pricing from the sister site is accurately reflected across product pages

• Channel partner pricing displays correctly in real time on relevant PDPs

• Payment and shipping configurations are operational and aligned with client specifications

• The site achieves Good Core Web Vitals scores on both mobile and desktop

• The client team requires no significant rework or major corrections post-handover

• Full documentation is delivered covering all integrations, configurations, and maintenance guidance

7. Important Notes for Applicants

This project requires a developer capable of taking full ownership and delivering independently. The client team will provide direction on nomenclature, branding, and pricing sources but cannot offer day-to-day technical guidance. Candidates must demonstrate prior experience with comparable full-scope Shopify projects and be prepared to present a portfolio or case studies during the selection process.
