LearnWithAI powers the platform and is scaling rapidly throughout the United States and internationally. Students complete their core academic work in two hours daily and achieve top national percentile scores. The system is effective. What it requires now is someone who thinks daily about the people using it.
You'll establish design excellence, create the standards, and develop the function. Your domain includes our learning platform and its associated learning applications, serving varied audiences both within and beyond Alpha.
Consider a five-year-old who cannot yet read, learning numbers through an interface where discovery must feel like exploration. Consider a teenager working two grade levels below target, reconstructing self-belief after repeated setbacks—a single unclear interaction could reverse their progress. Consider a parent who finally understands their child's learning journey. That transparency reduces worry and enables them to provide meaningful support. Consider an academic coach overseeing a multi-age classroom who must track advancement without information overload. You must understand each context thoroughly enough to design genuinely distinct solutions for each.
Your role centers on the experience layer: investigate each audience with substantial depth, translate your findings into design principles engineers can implement directly, and deliver code-ready outputs that function immediately, not static designs awaiting approval. You collaborate with product leaders accountable for outcomes and engineers who deploy working code. You challenge requests that compromise user experience. You maintain complete ownership.
You'll employ AI as a multiplier to accelerate iteration and expand coverage, but your discernment—not the tool's initial output—determines what launches. Primary focus remains our education platform, supplemented by occasional work in other areas.
What You Will Be Doing
- Conduct user research across fundamentally distinct audiences and develop design principles reflecting that understanding
- Construct and sustain design systems within each product's native UI framework, enabling faster engineering delivery and cumulative rather than fragmented design value
- Develop functional prototypes enabling product leaders to validate decisions in days rather than weeks
- Evaluate existing products from the user's vantage point: identify experience failures, engagement costs, and high-impact improvements
- Establish design culture here: structure feedback processes, evaluate trade-offs, identify non-negotiable standards
- Collaborate with product leaders and engineers, challenge requests that degrade user experience
What You Won't Be Doing
- Determining product strategy; product leaders retain that responsibility, you ensure experience alignment
- Creating static mockups requiring code translation
- Focusing on a single product; your scope spans the complete portfolio
- Executing predefined design briefs; you synthesize context from ambiguous inputs and begin designing with partial information
- Waiting for approval; you possess authority to detect and resolve UX issues independently
Basic Requirements
Senior UI/UX Designer key responsibilities
- Minimum 5 years in product design or UX positions, with complete ownership spanning research through production deployment
- Clear evidence of user empathy and research rigor across audiences substantially different from yourself
- Established design expertise in interaction and visual design, with a portfolio demonstrating audience-tailored decisions over generic templates, combined with confident design perspectives
- Verified AI-native approach: rapid iteration, critical evaluation, and willingness to challenge initial AI output instead of accepting defaults
- Capability to convert designs into code leveraging AI tools and current frameworks
- Prepared to establish a design function and culture from inception, not joining existing processes

Working with us
This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $100 USD/hour, which equates to $200,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
