Job Description

The Senior Technical Writer is responsible for developing, managing, and enhancing complex technical documentation that supports product adoption, customer success, and internal knowledge sharing. The role requires strong collaboration with engineering, product management, QA, support, and other cross-functional teams to deliver accurate, high-quality, and user-centric documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.

The Senior Technical Writer plays a key role in driving documentation excellence by improving content standards, optimizing documentation processes, and ensuring consistency across deliverables. This role also includes mentoring junior writers, reviewing documentation for quality and usability, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the Technical Communications organization.

The ideal candidate possesses strong technical aptitude, advanced writing and editing capabilities, expertise in modern documentation platforms, and experience leveraging AI-assisted authoring and automation tools to improve productivity, content quality, and documentation workflows.

Key Responsibilities :

- Develop, maintain, and manage complex technical documentation including :

1. User guides

2. Online help systems

3. API documentation

4. Release notes

5. Knowledge-base Articles

6. Process documentation

7. Training and enablement content

8. System and administrator guides

- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and easy-to-understand documentation for diverse audiences.

- Collaborate closely with developers, architects, QA engineers, product managers, support teams, and business stakeholders to gather, validate, and organize technical information.

- Participate in sprint planning, feature reviews, design discussions, and product meetings to identify documentation requirements and deliverables.

- Review, edit, and refine documentation created by fellow writers to ensure accuracy, consistency, usability, and adherence to documentation standards and style guidelines.

- Identify gaps in existing documentation and drive improvements in content structure, navigation, discoverability, and user experience.

- Create, format, publish, and maintain content using advanced documentation tools and structured authoring methodologies.

- Contribute to the development and maintenance of :

1. Documentation standards

2. Style guides

3. Templates

4. Taxonomy and terminology standards

5. Content governance practices

- Leverage AI-assisted tools and automation platforms to improve content creation, peer reviews, summarization, content maintenance, and documentation productivity.

- Support process optimization initiatives and recommend improvements to documentation workflows and operational efficiency.

- Stay updated with emerging technologies, AI trends, modern documentation practices, and industry best practices.

Required Skills and Competencies :

Writing and Communication Skills :

- Strong expertise in creating clear, concise, and structured technical documentation.

- Excellent written, verbal, editing, and proofreading skills.

- Ability to tailor content for technical and non-technical audiences.

- Strong attention to detail and content quality.

Technical and Domain Expertise :

- Strong understanding of software products, APIs, enterprise systems, workflows, and technical architectures.

- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.

Documentation Tools and Technologies :

- Advanced proficiency in documentation and collaboration tools such as :

1. MadCap Flare

2. Adobe FrameMaker

3. Confluence

4. Microsoft Office

5. JIRA

- Familiarity with :

1. Git and version control systems

2. Docs-as-Code workflows

3. Markdown

4. Content Management Systems (CMS)

AI Tools and Automation :

- Experience using AI-assisted documentation and productivity tools such as OpenAI ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Anthropic Claude AI for content generation, summarization, content refinement, workflow optimization, and documentation productivity improvements.

- Understanding AI-driven documentation workflows, prompt engineering, and automation best practices.

- Ability to leverage AI responsibly while ensuring documentation accuracy, consistency, and compliance with organizational standards.

Collaboration and Leadership :

- Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Quality and Process Improvement :

- Strong understanding of content strategy, documentation standards, and style guides.

- Ability to analyze documentation effectiveness and improve user experience using feedback and analytics.

Qualifications :

- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Technical Communication, English, Journalism, or a related field.

- Relevant certifications in Technical Communication, AI-assisted content development, Agile methodologies, or documentation tools are preferred.

Experience Required :

- 5-8 years of relevant experience in Technical Writing or Technical Communications with strong expertise in complex documentation, stakeholder collaboration and documentation strategy.

- Experience in enterprise software, SaaS, cloud platforms, APIs, or product documentation environments is preferred.

Preferred Certifications :

- Society for Technical Communication CPTC (Certified Professional Technical Communicator) Practitioner/Expert Level

- Google Technical Writing Certification

- API Documentation / OpenAPI Certification

- Agile or Scrum Certifications

- UX Writing / Content Design Certification

- AI-assisted Content Development or Documentation Automation Certifications
