Job Description
The Applied R&D Engineer conducts target-oriented research to directly apply findings to the specification, design, further development, and incremental improvement of products, services, systems, tools, processes, etc. Integrates, verifies, tests, and modifies SW / HW / system components and capitalises on innovative solutions to meet particular requirements and specifications.
How You Will Contribute And What You Will Learn
- Apply expertise in IP-based networks and Layer 2/Layer 2+ Access protocols to validate software for the Lightspan family , ensuring it meets required standards.
- Expertise in tools needed for developing automated test cases
- Leverage customer feedback to continually refine and enhance product features, ensuring robustness in live deployments.
- Collaborate closely with R&D, product management, and customer support to ensure a seamless development process and timely feature delivery.
- Deepen expertise in a subset of L2 & L2+ Access protocols, including but not limited to Ethernet, Layer 2 Forwarding VLAN, QoS, Multicast, DHCP, PPPoE, 802.1x, Radius, CFM, ERPS, xSTP, LLDP, LACP, ANCP, etc., and stay updated with emerging network technologies.
- Mentor and guide junior team members, gaining leadership experience and overseeing projects with limited risks.
- Enhance troubleshooting skills by diagnosing and resolving complex hardware and software issues across customer environments.
- Continue to innovate and enhance the product's software architecture and development processes, learning new tools and methods to improve efficiency
- Architecture and design experience . Abstraction Layer design and development
Key Skills And Experience
You have:
- Graduate or Postgraduate in the Engineering stream with 3+ years of Excellent programming skills in C/C++. Experience in Linux/RTOS Internals (VxWorks is preferred)
- Experience with Software Upgrades, Database Migration
- Experience in Broadcom/Marvell SDK programming will be a major plus.
- Development with Real-time OS, Embedded Linux
- Multi threaded environment development experience
It would be nice if you also had:
- Experience in the development of Highly Available systems
- Data structures, Algorithms
- Good with Quality processes
- Mentor and motivate a team of highly skilled professionals
- Experience in Layer 2 Switching, Layer 2 protocols (VLAN, xSTP, LACP, ERPS, DOT1x, LLDP, etc,) and Layer 3 Forwarding / Routing (OSPFv2/v3, BGP, ISIS, PIM, IGMP) , MPLS/LDP/RSVP/L2VPN.
