Role Description

This is a remote position for a Senior Technical MS SQL Engineer. The role is focused on advanced SQL development, database programming, and performance optimization within Microsoft SQL Server environments. The engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance database solutions that support critical business applications and large-scale transactional systems.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in T-SQL development, query tuning, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and data transformation processes. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot performance issues, optimize database operations, and ensure data accuracy and integrity across systems.

The engineer will work closely with application developers, business analysts, and cross-functional teams to translate complex business requirements into scalable and efficient SQL solutions. Responsibilities also include developing SQL-based Components, improving existing database logic, and contributing to Agile development activities.

This position is purely development-focused and is not a traditional DBA or infrastructure role. It does not involve server administration, hardware management, patching, or infrastructure maintenance. Instead, the primary focus is on SQL engineering, database logic, query optimization, and data processing solutions for enterprise applications.

Core SQL Development (Primary Focus)

• Write, optimize, and maintain complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers

• Develop efficient, scalable database logic to support business applications

• Translate complex business requirements into high-performing SQL solutions

• Refactor and improve existing SQL code for performance, readability, and maintainability

Query Performance & Optimization

• Analyze execution plans and resolve performance bottlenecks in queries and procedures

• Design and implement indexing strategies to improve query performance

• Tune high-volume transactional queries for optimal efficiency

Troubleshooting & Production Support

• Diagnose and fix issues related to SQL logic, data inconsistencies, and performance  

• Support production systems by resolving query-related issues quickly and effectively

Collaboration

• Work closely with application developers to integrate SQL logic into applications

• Participate in code reviews and enforce SQL development standards

• Contribute to Agile development cycles and deliverables

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 10+ years of strong hands-on experience in SQL development (MS SQL Server preferred)

• Expert-level proficiency in writing complex queries and stored procedures

• Strong experience in query optimization, indexing, and execution plan analysis

• Deep understanding of relational databases and data modeling

• Proven ability to handle large datasets and high-volume transactions

• Experience with ETL/data transformation using SQL

• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with SSIS or similar ETL tools

• Exposure to reporting tools (Power BI, SSRS, etc.)

• Familiarity with Azure SQL or cloud-based data platforms
