Senior Tax Specialist – Australia (Tax & Accounting)

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Tax Specialist to join our growing Australia Tax & Accounting practice. The role will involve end-to-end tax compliance and accounting support for Australian clients, including Individuals, Companies, Trusts, and SMSFs.

You will work closely with onshore stakeholders, clients, and internal teams to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant delivery of Australian tax and accounting engagements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review Australian Individual Tax Returns.
  • Prepare and review Company Tax Returns.
  • Handle Trust compliance and tax returns.
  • Manage SMSF accounting, compliance, and tax returns.
  • Perform accounting activities, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Prepare and review BAS, GST, and PAYG obligations.
  • Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Liaise with clients, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), and internal reviewers.
  • Ensure all work complies with Australian tax legislation, accounting standards, and ATO requirements.
  • Manage engagement deadlines and take ownership of assigned client portfolios.
  • Identify issues, resolve discrepancies, and escalate complex matters where required.
  • Support continuous improvement of tax and accounting processes.

Candidate Profile

What We're Looking For

  • Strong hands-on experience in Australian Tax & Accounting.
  • Proven experience preparing and/or reviewing tax returns for Individuals and Companies.
  • Exposure to Trusts and SMSF accounting, compliance, and taxation.
  • Sound understanding of Australian taxation laws and ATO compliance requirements.
  • Experience with BAS, GST, PAYG, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience working with accounting and tax software such as MYOB, Xero, and QuickBooks.
  • Prior experience working with Australian clients or within an Australian tax practice is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and client-management skills.
  • Dependable, proactive, and committed to delivering high-quality work.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with onshore stakeholders and internal teams.
