The Tax Product Specialist is responsible for ensuring regulatory accuracy, compliance, and tax correctness across
the entire product lifecycle, serving as the final authority on tax interpretation and product behavior. This role
requires deep tax expertise to translate complex tax laws into scalable, testable, and production-ready product
functionality, with full ownership from interpretation through requirements, validation, and release. The individual
authors detailed functional requirements and acceptance criteria that are clearly traceable to regulations, and
works closely with Engineering and QA to ensure accurate implementation within tax engines and system
platforms. They actively validate tax calculations, edge cases, and overall regulatory alignment, while also owning
production escalations, defect triage, and compliance risk management. Additionally, the role ensures that tax
flows remain intuitive without compromising accuracy, and approves all user-facing help content, diagnostics, and
assisted responses for tax correctness. With high accountability for regulatory risk, this position is responsible for
key tax decisions, requirements quality, and final release sign-offs.
What will you be doing -
On a day-to-day basis, the candidate will be interpreting tax regulations and translating them into clear, actionable
product requirements and acceptance criteria, ensuring everything is aligned with compliance standards. They will
collaborate closely with Engineering and QA teams to clarify requirements, review implementations, and validate
tax calculations, including edge cases and complex scenarios. A significant part of their day will involve reviewing
system behavior within tax engines and platforms to ensure outputs match regulatory expectations. They will also
participate in defect triage, investigate tax-related issues, and drive resolutions for any discrepancies found in
production. In parallel, they will review and approve user-facing content such as help text and diagnostics for tax
accuracy, while continuously ensuring that product flows remain intuitive without compromising compliance.
Additionally, they will engage in ongoing discussions with cross-functional teams, provide guidance on tax
decisions, and contribute to release readiness by validating and signing off on tax-related changes.
Experience Required – 6-7 yrs of US tax experience, specifically in Form 1040 federal and states.
What is the expectation from the candidate's current role/profile The candidate should have good knowledge of US Individual taxation, Form 1040, and should have knowledge of compliance-driven product areas. They should be someone currently working as a lead QA or Tax SME. Additionally, they should demonstrate a strong understanding of SDLC and system behavior.
