About the Position:

The Hitachi Rail SRS RAMS Function ensures proper implementation of the Hitachi Rail SRS RAMS Policy in accordance with company and industry specific standards and best practices, provides support to enable SRS to execute its business, provides governance and guarantees segregation of duties with the aim of ensuring the safety of the solutions developed and deployed by Hitachi Rail SRS and compliance to safety principles, industry specific standards and best practices for the development and deployment of safety-critical systems.

The Senior System RAMS Engineer coordinates the project and Product RAMS activities with SRS Business Segment RAMS so that the solutions (whether for testing or deployment to a customer for trial operations or revenue) are safe for their intended scope and purpose and is responsible to demonstrate that the solutions comply with the relevant processes, policies, legislation, standards and regulations.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure delivery of transportation solution systems in compliance with RAMS
  • guidelines and quality standards, and in accordance with time and budget
  • constraints
  • Ensure execution of the RAMS activities through participation to projects, bidding
  • and delivery phases: System RAMS planning, preliminary RAMS project analyses
  • and early feedback to project team since the early phases of the project (frontloading),
  • attendance to design reviews with suppliers, attendance to RAMS field
  • tests.
  • Ensure Safety Case development and RAM parameters performance
  • demonstration
  • Ensure delivery of project RAMS analysis and documents at system and
  • subsystem level in cooperation with the other technology functions, Operation &
  • Maintenance and external suppliers.
  • Provide technical support to RAMS Managers for management
  • Ensure that subsystems suppliers are provided with unambiguous RAMS
  • requirements and minimize supplier turnaround time for delivery of subsystem
  • RAMS analysis and ensure V&V evidence.
  • Ensure development, improvement and implementation of System RAMS
  • standard processes
  • Provide technical support to RAMS Managers for management and interface of
  • Independent Safety Assessor, Employer and External Authorities
  • Ensure the provision of schedule and cost progress to relevant RAMS Manager
  • Ensure the provision of RAMS requirements, if any, and the Hazard Log to the
  • relevant Product and Signalling RAMS Engineers
  • Prepares and presents Project RAMS Management Dashboard to management on a regular basis, monitors technical safety KPIs and proactively manages the closure of the actions
  • Supports capitalization activities for the project and department as well as Lessons Learned

Key Experience Preferred:

  • Knowledge of railway signaling systems, train control systems, fixed and moving block signaling principles, relay-based and/or computer-based interlocking design
  • Extensive experience with safety standards (CENELEC, IEC, IEEE, MIL), best practices, safety methods and techniques (HAZID, HAZOP, PHA, SHA, OSHA, FTA, FMEA/FMECA, FSA) and hazard management
  • Working knowledge of Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) and/or Interlocking system

Education/Qualifications Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) / Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) in Electronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering/equivalent or Business domain with demonstrated experience in the technical area
  • Minimum 5 - 10 years of experience of RAMS Experience in Signalling and train control systems or automation in other industries such as aerospace, defense, automotive, medical or nuclear
  • Good understanding of systems engineering, software engineering and functional safety
  • Detailed knowledge of system safety lifecycle, safety design concepts and risk analysis
  • Demonstrated experience with: System Safety, Validation, Safety Planning, Safety Approval and Certification, RAMS Engineering, Software Safety Assessment, Hazard Management, Safety Case
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate technical staff
  • Strong MS Office skills and Project Management tools & software
  • Good technical writing skills, excellent communication and analytical skills excellent command of the English language and local language, both written and oral
