Key Responsibilities
Storage Administration & Engineering
- Administer, monitor, and maintain Dell PowerMax 8000 storage arrays across dual data centres (Denver and Tampa), including LUN provisioning, capacity planning, host masking, and port group management.
- Manage Dell PowerStore storage frames, including controller maintenance, firmware updates, and drive firmware lifecycle.
- Design and maintain SAN zoning configurations on Brocade Fibre Channel switches (DS-6630B, 32Gb FC), including zone sets, alias naming conventions, and port licensing.
- Manage storage path configurations for AIX LPARs, VMware ESX clusters, Linux (Oracle RAC) hosts, and ensure optimal multi-path I/O.
Data Replication & Protection
- Configure and manage SRDF/Metro (synchronous) and SRDF/A (asynchronous) replication between Denver and Tampa data centres for disaster recovery.
- Manage Dell SmartDR sessions for automated DR orchestration across production workloads.
- Maintain and troubleshoot SnapVX snapshot operations integrated with AutoSys batch job flows, including link/unlink operations and snapshot lifecycle management via custom Perl scripts (APL_snaptool.pl).
- Support storage snapshot automation for the APL batch processing cycle, resolving failures and coordinating reruns with Data Operations and AIX teams.
Change Management & Maintenance
- Author and execute Change Management requests (via Jira) for all storage-related changes in production, DR, UAT, and pre-production environments — including maintenance plans, risk assessments, and backout procedures.
- Plan and execute host-to-storage path remapping projects (SAN zoning, port group reconfiguration, host bus rescans) for AIX, ESX, and Linux hosts.
- Coordinate storage allocations, LUN migrations, and decommissioning of legacy storage volumes across both data centres.
- Partner with Dell support teams for array core rebalancing, cache optimisation, firmware upgrades, and hardware remediation.
Compliance & Audit Support
- Provide evidence for annual SOC/SOX audits covering storage replication configurations (SRDF-A), data-at-rest encryption (D@RE), and redundancy postures.
- Maintain and review privileged access (Domain Admin) for storage management accounts as part of quarterly access reviews.
Incident Response & Troubleshooting
- Respond to storage-related Zendesk tickets — including snapshot job failures, storage allocation requests, replication issues, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Coordinate with Networking teams on firewall rules, VLAN configurations, and cross-site IP reachability for storage replication traffic.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for storage-related escalations, providing root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Documentation & Knowledge Transfer
- Maintain comprehensive storage documentation in SharePoint — including PowerMax frame layouts, port naming conventions, host-FA assignments, SAN port mappings, and network port connections.
- Document operational runbooks for snapshot operations, replication management, and host path changes.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in enterprise storage engineering, with substantial hands-on exposure to Dell EMC PowerMax (VMAX/Symmetrix family) and Dell PowerStore.
- Strong expertise in Fibre Channel SAN — Brocade switches, zoning, WWPN management, and multi-path I/O (PowerPath, MPIO, AIX SDDPCM).
- Deep working knowledge of SRDF (Metro and Async), SnapVX, and SmartDR for data replication and DR orchestration.
- Experience managing storage for AIX (IBM Power Systems), VMware ESX/vSphere, and Linux (RHEL/Oracle RAC) environments.
- Proficiency with Dell SYMCLI (Symmetrix Command Line Interface) and Unisphere for PowerMax management tools.
- Familiarity with scripting for storage automation — Perl, PowerShell, or Python for snapshot and replication management.
- Experience with ITIL Change Management processes — writing maintenance plans, risk assessments, and backout procedures.
- Strong understanding of data-at-rest encryption, storage-level security, and audit/compliance requirements in a financial services context.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting financial services / capital markets infrastructure with strict SLA and regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with Dell PowerProtect / Avamar backup systems.
- Experience working in globally distributed teams with US-based stakeholders.
- Dell EMC or equivalent storage certifications.
Working Hours & Collaboration
This role requires flexibility with working hours to accommodate overlap with US Eastern Time (ET) colleagues and to execute planned maintenance windows during US off-peak
hours (typically US evenings / IST early mornings). On-call availability for critical storage incidents may be required on a rotational basis.
You will collaborate daily with: - AIX Systems Engineers (Chicago, US) - VMware / Server Operations teams (US-based) - Database Administrators (US and India) - Networking Team (US and India) - Data Operations / Batch Operations (Bangalore, India) - Information Security (US-based — for audits and compliance)
