ROLE SUMMARY
We are seeking a Senior SQL Database Administrator to manage, optimize, and secure enterprise-grade SQL Server environments supporting mission-critical SaaS applications. You will be responsible for database design review, performance tuning, backup and recovery, security hardening, and collaboration with development teams to ensure data integrity and availability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances (2016, 2019, 2022) across development, staging, and production environments
- Implement and manage database security policies including role-based access control, encryption (TDE), and audit logging
- Monitor and optimize database performance: query tuning, index management, execution plan analysis
- Design and manage backup, recovery, and high-availability solutions (Always On AG, log shipping, replication)
- Collaborate with development teams to review schema designs, stored procedures, and data models
- Manage database patching, upgrades, and migrations
- Ensure data governance and compliance requirements are met (data masking, audit trails, retention)
- Support data integration workflows including ETL processes and linked servers
- Respond to and resolve database incidents, outages, and performance degradations
- Maintain database documentation, runbooks, and capacity planning assessments
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of SQL Server DBA experience in production environments
- Strong expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, and execution plan analysis
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server high availability features (Always On, mirroring, replication)
- Solid understanding of database security, encryption, and compliance practices
- Experience with backup strategies, disaster recovery planning, and RTO/RPO requirements
- Proficiency in T-SQL ability to develop and review complex stored procedures and scripts
- Familiarity with cloud database environments (Azure SQL, Amazon RDS) is a strong plus
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience supporting SaaS applications with multi-tenant database architectures
- Microsoft certification: MCP, MCSA: SQL Server or equivalent
- Exposure to database monitoring tools (SolarWinds DPA, SentryOne, or similar)
