Senior Specialist - Health & Safety

Job Description

The H&S Specialist will support the India H&S Manager by driving the effective implementation of WSP India's Health & Safety practices, policies, and procedures within the Noida office. The role focuses on ensuring compliance and risk management across People, Projects, and Premises, aligned with ISO 45001 and Global H&S expectations.

Responsibilities

• H&S Strategy & Management System
• Lead the local implementation of the India H&S Strategy and the H&S Management System in accordance with ISO 45001 and WSP's Global Expectations.
• Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure effective application of the Management System within the Noida office.
• Training & Capability Building
• Assess H&S training needs for Noida-based employees.
• Plan, coordinate, and deliver required H&S training programs (induction, refresher, competency-based modules).
• Performance Monitoring & Reporting
• Monitor and report local H&S performance indicators to the India H&S Manager on a periodic basis.
• Emergency Preparedness & Response
• Ensure that emergency response plans, evacuation procedures, and crisis arrangements remain uptodate.
• Coordinate preparedness activities for expatriates and international travelers.
• Compliance & Advisory Support
• Support internal teams in ensuring compliance with all applicable Indian H&S legislation.
• Provide expert advice and guidance on all aspects of health and safety in the office environment.
• iSMS Administration & Incident Management
• Maintain and update the Integrated Safety Management System (iSMS) for incident and observation logging, tracking, and reporting.
• Analyze incident statistics, near misses, dangerous occurrences, and recommend corrective measures.
• Ensure that incidents and near misses are investigated, root causes identified, actions addressed, and learnings shared across the business.
• Premises Risk & Compliance
• Perform Premises Risk Assessments and Premise Compliance Inspections at defined frequencies or based on operational needs.
• Procurement Support
• Collaborate with the business on local H&S procurement needs to facilitate effective execution of H&S requirements (e.g., emergency equipment, signage, PPE if applicable).
• Communication & Awareness
• Ensure timely dissemination of H&S advisories, notices, and information to all relevant internal groups.
• Health & Wellbeing
• Support the India H&S Manager in implementing occupational health and wellbeing programs tailored to the Noida office.
• H&S Promotion & Campaigns
• Contribute to internal H&S promotional campaigns, special drives, and engagement activities.
• Support to Regional H&S Projects
• Assist the India H&S Manager in executing H&S initiatives and projects to meet regional/global GH&S requirements.
  
  

Key Competencies / Skills

• Strong understanding of Occupational Health & Safety Management in an office environment.
• Experience with H&S Management Systems in line with ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001.
• Competence in performing H&S Risk Assessments and Compliance Inspections.
• Ability to plan and deliver H&S Training.
• Knowledge and experience in conducting Incident Investigations (root cause analysis).
• Exposure to Occupational Health & Safety in a construction/project site environment (preferred).
• Understanding of Safety in Design principles (advantageous).
• Lead Auditor certification in ISO 45001 (preferred for Specialist level).
  
  

Qualifications

• NEBOSH IGC / Diploma in Safety, or equivalent professional safety qualification.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Science (preferred but not mandatory with strong experience).
• Additional certifications in incident investigation, emergency response, ergonomics, or workplace safety will be an advantage.
  
  

BGV:

• Employment with WSP India is subject to the successful completion of a background verification (BGV) check conducted by a third-party agency appointed by WSP India.
