About The Team
The Omni Returns Experience team builds and operates the platforms and experiences that power seamless, flexible, and reliable returns across Walmart's omnichannel ecosystem. Our mission is to make returns simple and intuitive for customers and associates, whether they shop online, in-store, or through pickup and delivery.
We design and deliver scalable, customer-first solutions that support a wide range of return journeys, including digital, in-store, and hybrid experiences. The team works closely with product, store operations, customer support, and logistics partners to reduce friction, improve speed and transparency, and ensure operational excellence at Walmart scale.
As part of this team, you will work on highly visible, business-critical systems that directly impact customer trust, satisfaction, and loyalty. You will tackle complex technical and operational challenges, drive innovation across platforms, and help shape the future of omnichannel commerce at the world's largest retailer.
What You'll Do
Application & Feature Delivery
Own delivery of scoped features, services, APIs, UIs, or ML components
Drive implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing support
Align outcomes with platform and domain goals
Software Development & Lifecycle Execution
Write clean, reliable code using modern languages and frameworks
Execute the full SDLC, including CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and maintenance
Build automation and telemetry; participate in code reviews and debugging
AI/ML & GenAI Integration
Integrate AI/ML components and agents using internal and external APIs
Leverage GenAI tools to improve development velocity and code quality
Apply object-oriented and documentation-driven design for maintainable systems
Solution Design & Technical Contribution
Convert high-level designs into detailed technical designs
Evaluate trade-offs and contribute to scalable, secure system architectures
Participate in design and architecture reviews
Problem Definition & Metrics
Partner with stakeholders to understand user and business problems
Translate requirements into technical solutions with clear success metrics
DevOps, Monitoring & Reliability
Monitor system health and performance using appropriate tools
Support production readiness, maintenance, and operational excellence
Technical Ownership & Judgment
Own assigned deliverables and ensure high-quality outcomes
Make sound technical decisions with long-term system impact in mind
Adapt quickly to changing requirements and technologies
Collaboration & Engineering Excellence
Collaborate effectively across teams and communicate clearly
Promote engineering best practices, documentation, and continuous improvement
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related technical field
6+ years of software engineering experience developing services using Java and Spring Boot
4+ years of experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems for high availability and scale
4+ years of experience developing services on managed public cloud platforms such as Azure, GCP, or AWS
3+ years of experience working with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, Cassandra)
3+ years of experience with REST APIs, message brokers (Apache Kafka, ActiveMQ), caching technologies (Redis, Memcached), Elasticsearch, Spark, and HDFS
Strong understanding of microservices-oriented architectures and extensible REST APIs
Advanced knowledge of performance, scalability, and system architecture, with a focus on minimizing technical debt
Practical experience with agile software development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, XP)
Experience working with large codebases and driving complex projects to completion
Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions across teams
Strong oral and written communication skills, with a structured problem-solving mindset

Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS), relational and NoSQL databases (MySQL, Cassandra, CosmosDB), message brokers (Apache Kafka, JMS), caching tools (Redis, Memcached), Elasticsearch, Spark, HDFS, Git, Docker, Kubernetes, data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and engineering best practices.
