Senior Software Engineer

As a Senior Engineer at Staples, you will be an integral part of a passionate, collaborative, and agile Digital Solutions team driving one of the most significant technology transformations of the 21st century. You will contribute to the re-engineering and modernization of Staples Order Management and Supply Chain Systems by designing and implementing scalable, efficient, and intelligent order and delivery solutions that enhance customer experience. You will collaborate closely with architects, product teams, and business stakeholders to translate vision and requirements into robust Order Management platform capabilities. Leveraging your expertise in service-oriented architectures and full software development lifecycle, you will build high-quality, maintainable solutions following best practices and adhering to shared implementation guidelines. Ideal candidates bring strong Java skills, extensive experience with IBM Sterling Commerce/Yantra, and proficiency in modern technologies including Spring Boot, Kafka, Couchbase, and cloud architectures. You thrive in Agile environments, continuously seek to reduce technical debt, and improve time-to-market by applying microservices and event-driven design principles.

Duties & Responsibilities

· Collaborate with DevOps, product, and other engineering teams to define requirements and

deliver long-lasting technical solutions.

· Design, build, and maintain distributed and scalable backend services to support business-

critical feature.

· Optimize system latency, throughput, and resource usage to support high performance under

variable loads.

· Address technical debt by refactoring code and infrastructure and stay updated on emerging

technologies and industry trends.

· Excellent verbal and written communications with the ability to establish effective working

relationships with team members and cross functional teams.

Develop comprehensive test plans and maintain automated test suites to ensure software robustness and minimize regressions.

Design and implement business and technical features on the Staples Order Management platform · Work with Architects to ensure system is implemented as designed and in adherence with Shared OMS implementation guidelines. · Partner with business, Product teams and other domain architects to translate business requirements and vision into core OMS system capabilities

· Provide domain expertise by recommending guidelines, methodologies, and tools through extensive interaction with other groups such as vendors, industry forums, enterprise SOA and architecture teams etc. · Create and evolve application documentation as required · Ensure that technical solutions follow best practices, are reliable, are easily maintainable.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

· Possess 4 to 7 years of relevant professional experience. · 5+ years of experience designing and implementing IBM Sterling Commerce/Yantra using service-oriented architectures · 3+ years of full software development lifecycle experience including the ability to perform independent analysis · 3+ years of experience working with web services (SOAP/HTTP, REST), · 3+ years of combined experience in developing applications with relational and non-relational database technologies · Experience in Java 8+ · Excellent analytical abilities and a strong intellectual curiosity · Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git / SVN · Well-versed in best practices for developing high-quality software, implementing continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience working in retail domain and developing e-commerce solutions

· Experience in Java 8, Spring Boot, Postgres, Kafka, Couchbase, Netflix OSS, Linux,

· Experience in building micro-services.

· Experience in working event driven architecture.

· Experience with cloud architecture and technologies

· Experience working on projects using Agile methodology.
