Senior Software Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who can combine strong hands-on engineering skills with proven backend technical leadership.

You will lead backend engineering initiatives focused on high-performance, scalable and reliable systems, while continuing to contribute actively to architecture, coding, code reviews and technical decision-making.

The ideal candidate has previously worked as a Backend Lead, Tech Lead, Lead Engineer or equivalent, has led backend engineers, and has personally owned production systems operating at meaningful scale.

What You'll Do

• Lead backend engineers in designing, developing and scaling high-performance production systems.
• Drive architecture and technical decisions for APIs, distributed services, asynchronous workflows and data-intensive applications.
• Remain hands-on with coding and production engineering, rather than operating purely in a managerial capacity.
• Conduct design reviews and code reviews, establish engineering best practices and improve code quality.
• Mentor and coach backend engineers and help the team improve engineering depth.
• Delegate effectively while maintaining ownership of technical quality and delivery.
• Identify and resolve latency, reliability, scalability and performance bottlenecks.
• Design systems capable of handling high traffic, concurrency and complex database workloads.
• Own production incidents, root-cause analysis and reliability improvements.
• Drive safe migrations, architectural evolution and performance/cost optimization.
• Work closely with product and engineering stakeholders to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.

Must-Have Skills & Experience

Backend Engineering

• 4–7 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong production experience in at least one of:
• Python
• Go
• Rust
• Strong understanding of backend architecture, distributed systems and scalable service design.
• Experience building and operating production APIs/services at scale.
• Strong understanding of databases, caching, asynchronous processing and failure handling.
• Experience troubleshooting and improving system latency, throughput, reliability and scalability.

Technical Leadership

Prior experience as a:

• Backend Lead
• Tech Lead
• Lead Engineer
• Senior Engineer with significant technical leadership responsibility

You should have demonstrated experience with:

• Technical/design ownership
• Code reviews
• Architecture decisions
• Delegation
• Mentoring and coaching engineers
• Delivery accountability
• Leading backend engineering initiatives

Formal people management is not mandatory, but genuine technical leadership of backend engineers is required.

Cloud & Production

• Hands-on experience deploying and operating backend systems in the cloud.
• GCP experience is preferred.
• AWS experience is also relevant.
• Strong understanding of production environments, observability, reliability and incident management.

High-Performance Systems Experience

We are particularly interested in engineers who have personally worked on systems involving:

• High-throughput APIs
• High concurrency
• Transaction processing
• Distributed systems
• Asynchronous/event-driven architectures
• Complex database workloads
• Performance and latency optimization
• Reliability and failure recovery
• Large-scale data processing
• Cost optimization
• Production migrations

Education

A strong academic background is required.

Candidates should ideally hold an engineering/computing degree from institutions such as:

• IITs
• BITS Pilani
• IIIT Hyderabad
• Leading NITs such as NIT Trichy or NIT Surathkal
• Other comparable highly selective engineering/computing institutions

Degree: B.Tech / B.E. / equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.
