We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong Laravel experience to help build, improve, and scale our ecommerce and internal technology platforms. This role is ideal for someone who is technically strong, writes clean and reliable code, and has experience building production-grade web applications.
You will work closely with product, design, operations, and leadership teams to develop backend systems, customer-facing features, internal dashboards, integrations, and scalable APIs. We are looking for someone who can take ownership, solve problems independently, and contribute to architecture as well as day-to-day development.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain web applications using PHP and Laravel
- Build scalable backend systems, APIs, admin panels, and internal tools
- Develop and maintain ecommerce-related features such as checkout flows, order management, payment integrations, user accounts, and CRM workflows
- Improve system performance, security, reliability, and code quality
- Work with frontend developers to integrate backend APIs and business logic
- Design clean database structures and write efficient queries
- Build and maintain integrations with third-party services such as payment gateways, shipping platforms, WhatsApp, SMS, analytics, and marketing tools
- Troubleshoot production issues and fix bugs in a timely manner
- Participate in code reviews and help maintain engineering standards
- Contribute to technical architecture and suggest better approaches where needed
- Write reusable, maintainable, and well-documented code
- Collaborate with product and business teams to understand requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions
- Mentor junior developers where required
Required skills and experience
- 4-8+ years of software development experience
- Strong hands-on experience with PHP and Laravel
- Strong understanding of REST APIs and backend architecture
- Experience with MySQL or similar relational databases
- Good understanding of queues, jobs, caching, and background processing
- Experience working with third-party APIs and integrations
- Familiarity with authentication, authorisation, and web security best practices
- Good knowledge of Git and version control workflows
- Experience deploying and maintaining applications in production environments
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and performance optimisation skills
- Ability to write clean, structured, and maintainable code
Preferred experience
- Experience working on ecommerce platforms or consumer internet products
- Familiarity with Laravel queues, Horizon, Redis, cron jobs, and event-driven workflows
- Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, DigitalOcean, or similar
- Familiarity with Docker, Linux servers, and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with payment gateway integrations
- Experience with high-traffic or fast-growing products
- Understanding of frontend technologies such as Blade, Livewire, Vue.js, React, or basic JavaScript
- Experience with analytics, tracking, and operational dashboards
