About Gentle
Gentle is a fintech investment and wealth platform built for young India — retail investors aged 20–35 who are starting their money journey and want investing to feel simple, honest and jargon-free. We're an early-stage, founder-led startup based in Ahmedabad and we're now bringing product engineering in-house as we scale.
This is a senior, high-ownership role. You won't inherit a mature engineering org — you'll help build one. You'll own the mobile codebase, set technical standards and shape the app that first-time investors across India will trust with their money.
The Role
You'll be the senior-most Flutter engineer on the team — owning the app end-to-end, from architecture decisions to store releases. That includes taking full ownership of a codebase currently built by an external development agency, auditing it, raising its quality bar and leading its evolution in-house. Fintech apps live and die on trust: a janky animation or a broken payment flow costs us users. You'll work directly with the founders, our design function and our Node.js backend to ship fast without breaking things — and as the team grows, you'll mentor the engineers we hire after you.
What You'll Do
Own the Flutter app (iOS + Android) end-to-end — architecture, feature development, performance and releases
Lead the codebase handover and audit from our external dev agency; refactor and harden where needed
Define and enforce architecture and state management standards using Bloc — modular, testable, scalable
Make build-vs-buy and library-selection calls with sound technical judgment
Integrate REST APIs with our Node.js backend; own auth flows, error states, caching and offline behaviour
Set the bar on performance — smooth scrolling, controlled app size, etc
Establish engineering hygiene: code review culture, testing strategy, CI/CD, release management (Play Store / App Store, staged rollouts)
Debug and resolve production issues using crash reporting, analytics and profiling tools
Mentor junior/mid-level Flutter engineers as the team grows
Partner with founders on roadmap feasibility, estimates and technical trade-offs
Must-Have
5 years of mobile development experience, with 3+ years building production Flutter apps at scale
Deep, production-grade expertise in Bloc / flutter_bloc — event/state design, transitions, testing Blocs and the judgment of when Bloc is (and isn't) the right tool
Mastery of Flutter fundamentals — widget lifecycle, the widget tree, BuildContext, keys, render pipeline basics, composition over inheritance
Strong Dart proficiency — null safety, async/await, Futures, Streams, isolates and effective use of the type system
Proven experience owning app architecture — clean/layered architecture (presentation / domain / data), dependency injection, modularization
Multiple apps shipped and maintained on the Play Store and/or App Store, including post-launch iteration at real user scale
Deep experience integrating REST APIs — serialization, error handling, retry/caching strategies and graceful loading/empty/error states
Performance engineering skills — DevTools profiling, jank hunting, memory inspection, app-size optimization
Strong Git and code review practices; experience setting standards for a team, not just following them
Ability to translate Figma designs into responsive, adaptive, pixel-faithful UI
Automated testing experience — unit and widget tests as a habit, not an afterthought
Nice-to-Have
Prior experience in fintech, trading, broking, or payments apps
Experience taking over or auditing an agency-built or legacy codebase
Familiarity with other state management approaches (Riverpod, Provider, GetX) and the ability to articulate trade-offs
CI/CD for mobile — Codemagic, Fastlane, GitHub Actions; automated store deployments
Native platform depth — Kotlin/Swift, platform channels, native module integration
Payment gateway or UPI integration experience (Razorpay, Cashfree, etc.)
Push notifications (FCM), deep linking, app links and app security hardening (SSL pinning, obfuscation, root/jailbreak detection)
Firebase suite — Crashlytics, Remote Config, Analytics, A/B testing
Integration testing and release automation at scale
Prior experience as a team lead or mentor or as an early engineer at a startup
Open-source contributions or a public GitHub/portfolio
Who Thrives Here
Product thinkers, not ticket takers — you ask why before how
Senior enough to disagree with founders when the tech demands it — and to commit once a call is made
Comfortable with early-stage ambiguity: priorities shift, specs are thin, speed matters
Bias toward shipping — you'd rather release, learn and iterate than polish forever
You care that a 22-year-old making their first investment feels safe and confident in the app
What We Offer
The senior-most mobile seat at a founder-led fintech — your architecture decisions become the company's foundation
Direct collaboration with the founding team — your work ships, visibly
A clear path to leading the mobile engineering function as the team grows
An office culture in Ahmedabad that's ambitious without burnout theatre
