Job Description
About Us
Elchemy is building the cross-border marketplace for specialty chemicals, a $800B industry that still runs on emails, spreadsheets, phone calls and personal relationships. We connect manufacturers across Asia with buyers across the US and Europe, and we're replacing that fragmented, opaque process with software.
In 4 years, we've scaled to customers in 55+ countries and suppliers in 25+ countries, and we've done it on a proprietary technology platform that keeps manual work to a minimum. That platform is the product. Every quote, quality check, document, shipment and payment flows through systems we've built ourselves, which means we have deep, structured data on how global chemical trade actually works.
Now we're building what comes next: the largest B2B chemicals marketplace, powered by AI agents. We believe that in the near future, agents will make a large share of procurement and sales decisions. Whoever builds the infrastructure those agents run on, with the data, trust and rails to transact across borders, will define how the industry works. We want to be that company, and we're early enough that the architecture is still being written.
We're backed by Prime Venture Partners and Info Edge Ventures. Our team includes alumni of IITs, IIMs and NITs, plus people who have built and scaled startups and worked at global multinationals.
What you'll do
- Design and build the Django backend that runs Elchemy's operations and powers our marketplace. You'll own architecture, data models and APIs from first design to production.
- Own features end to end. Turn ambiguous business problems into simple, shippable systems, and deploy and monitor them in production.
- Our systems handle multi-currency transactions, compliance documentation, supplier and product data, and shipments across borders. Data integrity and reliability matter here because real orders depend on them.
- Use AI coding tools to move faster, and review their output with a critical eye. Help us find where LLMs add real value in the product.
- Own deployment, monitoring and uptime on AWS, and find and fix performance bottlenecks before they hurt users.
- Lead through code reviews, clear documentation and sound engineering practices. Mentor engineers as the team grows, and have a real say in technical direction.
- Partner closely with product, design and frontend to decide what gets built and why, not just how.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical disciplines from a Tier-1/2 college. Strong CS fundamentals and good system design instincts. You can explain tradeoffs and design something that holds up as load and complexity grow.
- 5+ years building and running production backend systems, with strong Python and Django (including Django REST Framework).
- Solid fundamentals and proven experience of working with data pipelines, event driven architecture, and large-scale backend systems.
- Solid understanding of relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL): schema design, query optimization, and keeping data correct as systems grow.
- Engineering Best Practices: Strong knowledge of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and experience with the full software development life cycle (SDLC) on a Linux platform.
- Production experience on AWS (such as EC2, RDS, S3,DynamoDB, Cloudfront, Lambda, Bedrock) or similar GCP services.
- Experience integrating LLMs into products (LangChain, OpenAI, Anthropic APIs) or working with third-party and open-source integrations.
- Strong code-reading and debugging skills. You can drop into an unfamiliar service and find what's wrong.
- Real fluency with AI coding tools: you know when to trust them, how to prompt them well, and how to trim and correct what they produce.
- An ownership mindset. You're comfortable in a small team without a dedicated QA function, and you take responsibility for quality, testing and reliability.
